Installation
DAT highly recommends that you consult your Authorized Dealer for
enclosure building and/or professional installation.
Enclosures The M5 Series subwoofers are primarily designed for small
sealed-box applications. Good results may also be achieved in vented and
bandpass enclosures. Though free-air (infinite-baffle) applications are NOT
recommended, they may be used successfully in low-power systems (e.g.,
200W, or less, per sub). This manual endeavors to show the installation flexibil-
ity of the M5101 and M5121 subs, not the exact installation methods to be used
in every case.
Enclosure constructionYour enclosure should be made of ¾ (19mm)
material minimum. The recommended material is MDF (Medium Density Fiber-
board.) Use quality wood glue and fasteners (if needed) to construct the enclo-
sure. Allow enough extra air space for internal bracing. Any panel that is 2.0ft² or
over, should be braced. The best rule-of-thumb is to brace in all three direc-
tions: F-R, T-B, S-S. This may not be practical or possible in all cases, however,
some bracing is better than none. Seal the inside joints with a silicone rubber
sealant to avoid all air leaks, allowing adequate drying time before use. If you
are mounting multiple subwoofers for high power (read: high SPL) use, mount
each woofer in its own chamber. Add enough fiberglass (R-22, R-30) batting to
