Electrical connection
This heater must be used on an ~ supply only and the voltage
marked on the heater must correspond to the supply voltage.
This heater is fitted with a rewirable plug incorporating a 13 amp
fuse. In the event of replacing the fuse in the plug supplied, a 13
amp fuse approved by ASTA to BS 1362 must be used. If any
other type of plug is used, a 15 amp fuse must be fitted in the
plug, the adaptor, or at the distribution board.
IMPORTANT : If the plug is not suitable for your socket, the 13
amp plug should be removed. Before wiring the appropriate
plug, please note that the wires in this mains lead are coloured
in accordance with the following code :
BLUE : NEUTRAL
BROWN : LIVE
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead may not correspond
with the coloured markings in your plug, proceed as follows :
Connect the BROWN wire to the terminal marked ‘L or coloured
RED. Connect the BLUE wire to the terminal marked ‘N’ or coloured
BLACK. Note : ‘L’ or ‘N’ wire must not be connected to the EARTH
terminal marked ‘E’ or
or coloured GREEN or GREEN AND
YELLOW. If in doubt, consult your electrician.
VERY IMPORTANT ADVICE
NORMAL USE OF YOUR FAN HEATER IN AREAS
WHICH HAVE HIGH LEVELS OF FLUFF, DUST OR
HAIR (e.g. BEDROOMS/DRESSING AREAS/HAIR
SALONS) ESPECIALLY ON SOLID/LINO
COVERED FLOORS, WILL RESULT IN THE
ACCUMULATION OF THESE INSIDE THE
HEATER AT THE BACK OF THE ELEMENT.
IF LEFT TO BUILD UP, IT WILL EVENTUALLY
RESULT IN THE SAFETY CUT-OUT OPERATING
TO PROTECT YOU AND THE HEATER FROM THE
DANGER OF THE PRODUCT OVERHEATING!
IT IS THEREFORE CRITICAL THAT YOU USE A
VACUUM CLEANER TO REGULARLY BLOW OUT
AND CLEAN ANY ACCUMULATION FROM THE
HEATER! (See CLEANING section overleaf for
more detailed instructions on how to do this)

Do you have a question about the Dimplex DXFF20TSN and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Dimplex DXFF20TSN and DXFF30TSN are flat fan heaters designed for domestic use, offering both heating and a cool blow function. These models are part of the Dimplex range of portable heating solutions, emphasizing safety, ease of use, and regular maintenance for optimal performance.

Function Description:

These fan heaters are designed to provide warmth through forced air convection. They feature a heat control knob that allows users to select between different output settings: 'Off' (O), 'Cool Blow' (*), 'Half Heat Output' (I), and 'Full Heat Output' (II). The 'Cool Blow' setting circulates unheated air, making it suitable for use as a fan during warmer periods. The 'Half Heat Output' and 'Full Heat Output' settings provide varying levels of warmth.

A key feature is the integrated thermostat control, which allows the user to set a desired room temperature. Once the room reaches the set temperature, the heater will automatically cycle on and off to maintain it. For frost protection, the thermostat can be set to a specific position (indicated by '*') to maintain a temperature of approximately 5°C, preventing pipes from freezing in unheated rooms.

The heater is equipped with a mains neon indicator (see Fig. 1) that illuminates when the device is connected to the mains supply, confirming power is available.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model DXFF20TSN: 2.0kW power output, featuring a switch, thermostat, and neon indicator.
  • Model DXFF30TSN: 3.0kW power output, featuring a switch, thermostat, and neon indicator.
  • Power Supply: Operates on an AC supply only, and the voltage marked on the heater must match the supply voltage.
  • Plug and Fuse: Fitted with a rewirable plug incorporating a 13 amp fuse. If the fuse needs replacement, a 13 amp fuse approved by ASTA to BS 1362 must be used. If a different plug type is used, a 15 amp fuse must be fitted in the plug, adaptor, or distribution board.
  • Wiring: The mains lead wires are coloured BLUE (Neutral) and BROWN (Live). These should be connected to the 'N' (or BLACK) and 'L' (or RED) terminals respectively. The EARTH terminal ('E', or GREEN, or GREEN AND YELLOW) must not be connected to.

Usage Features:

  • Placement: The heater should always be used on a flat, stable surface. It must not be placed directly below a fixed socket outlet.
  • Clearance: It is crucial to maintain a minimum distance of 750mm (30 inches) from any overhanging surfaces. Combustible materials such as drapes and other furnishings must be kept clear from the front, sides, and rear of the heater.
  • Environment: The heater is not suitable for use in the immediate surroundings of a bath, shower, or swimming pool. It should not be used on deep pile carpets or long-hair rugs.
  • Airflow: The air inlet slots (top and bottom) and air outlet slots (front) must never be covered or obstructed. The mains lead should not overhang the front outlet grille.
  • Safety Cut-out: For safety, the appliance is fitted with a thermal cut-out that automatically switches the heater off if it overheats. To reset, remove the cause of overheating, unplug or turn off the electrical supply for a few minutes, allow the heater to cool, and then reconnect.
  • Warning Symbol: The heater carries a warning symbol indicating that it must not be covered, to prevent overheating.
  • Children and Supervision: This appliance is not intended for use by children or persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities without assistance or supervision. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
  • External Switching Devices: To avoid a hazard due to inadvertent resetting of the thermal cutout, the appliance must not be supplied through an external switching device (e.g., a timer) or connected to a circuit that is regularly switched on and off by the utility.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Cleaning: Regular vacuum cleaning is essential for proper operation, especially in areas with high levels of fluff, dust, or hair (e.g., bedrooms, dressing areas, hair salons). Accumulation of these particles inside the heater, particularly at the back of the element, can lead to overheating and trigger the safety cut-out.
  • Cleaning Procedure:
    1. ALWAYS DISCONNECT FROM THE POWER SUPPLY before cleaning.
    2. Use a vacuum cleaner in 'blow mode' to blow air into the heater through the front air outlet. This helps dislodge accumulated matter from the back of the element. (If the vacuum does not have a blow function, blowing hard yourself can achieve a similar result).
    3. Then, use the vacuum cleaner in 'suction mode' to suck out the now loose particles through the top and bottom air inlets. This also cleans these areas.
  • Surface Cleaning: For normal surface cleaning, use a dry cloth to remove dust and a damp (not wet) cloth to clean off stains. Avoid detergents, abrasive cleaning agents, or polish. Be careful not to allow moisture into the heater.
  • Mains Lead Replacement: If the mains lead is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or a similarly qualified person to avoid a hazard.
  • Disposal: At the end of its useful life, the product should not be disposed of with household waste. It should be recycled where facilities exist, in accordance with European Community directives.

Warranty and Support:

The product comes with a three-year guarantee from the date of purchase, covering repair or exchange free of charge (subject to availability). The guarantee is void if the product is not used and maintained according to the instructions and warnings provided. For after-sales information or assistance, users can visit www.dimplex.co.uk or contact the helpdesk. Spare parts are also available on the website.
