Overview

This document serves as the user manual for the Discovery Adventures DS990, a device primarily designed for video recording, likely a dash camera, given its features and accessories.

Function Description

The DS990 is a versatile recording device capable of capturing video and still photos. Its core function is to record continuous video, automatically starting when powered on or connected to a car charger. It features a dual-lens system, allowing for recording from two perspectives, and integrates GPS functionality for tracking driving pace and coordinates. The device also includes a G-sensor, which automatically protects video clips from being overwritten in the event of sudden braking or heavy impact, making it suitable for incident recording in vehicles. A park monitoring function is also present, enabling the camera to record automatically for 10 seconds if vibration or movement is detected while the car is parked and the camera is off, enhancing parking security. Time-lapse recording is another feature, allowing for efficient use of storage space by recording at set intervals.

Usage Features

Power On/Off: To power on, long press the ON/OFF button. The device will automatically enter video mode and begin recording. Alternatively, connecting it to a car charger will also power it on and start recording. When unplugged from the charger, the device saves the current file and shuts down after a 5-second delay. If no Micro SD card is inserted, the LCD screen will display a "Please insert micro SD card" message. Inserting a Micro SD card while the DVR is working will cause it to power off automatically. To power off, long press the ON/OFF button while the device is in operation. In a low battery state, the device will display "Low Battery," save the current file, and shut down.

Battery Charging: When charging, the battery icon on the screen will flash. It will stop flashing once fully charged.

Video Recording: After powering on, the device automatically enters video mode. Pressing the OK button stops recording and saves the current file, putting the DVR into standby mode. In standby mode, pressing OK again restarts recording. Another press of OK will stop it. In video mode, a short press of the Mode button can toggle sounds on or off.

Photo Capture: To take photos, press the Mode button to enter photo mode, then press the OK button. The device will provide a sound prompt upon capturing a photo.

Playback and Delete: From video standby mode, press the Mode button twice to enter playback mode. Use the Up/Down buttons to navigate and select files. The OK button is used to play or pause a selected file. To delete files, press the Menu button to access the Delete menu. Confirm the operation with the OK button, then select "delete current" or "delete all" and press OK to delete. Press the Menu button to exit the Delete mode and return to playback.

Digital Zoom: In both video and photo modes, the Up button allows for zooming in, with a maximum support of 4x. The Down button zooms out, with a minimum support of 1:1.

Switch Lens: In video or standby mode, pressing the ON/OFF button allows you to switch between the available lenses.

Park Monitoring: This function is activated through the Settings menu. When enabled, a "P" icon appears on the screen. If the camera detects vibration or a moving object while off, it will automatically record for 10 seconds and then shut down. A long press of the Mode button can also toggle this function on or off.

Time-lapse Record: In standby mode, a short press of the Menu button brings up the setting menu. Use the Up/Down buttons to select "Time-lapse Record" and press OK. Options include 'Off/100ms/200ms/500ms'. A short press of the Menu button exits this setting, and an icon will display on the LCD screen. When active, the camera records at set intervals to conserve Micro SD card space.

GPS Function: To utilize GPS, insert the G-MOUSE into the camera. An "X" icon on the upper middle of the screen indicates that the camera has not successfully received a GPS signal. Once the "X" disappears, GPS has been successfully located. Professional players are required to view videos with current driving pace and coordinate information. The "GPS time correction" function in the menu, when enabled and after successful time zone selection and GPS location, will synchronize the camera's current time with the GPS satellite.

Menu Setting: From standby mode, press the Menu button to enter the system settings interface. Use the Up/Down buttons to select a setting item, then press OK to enter its sub-categories. Within sub-categories, use Up/Down to select specific parameters and press OK to confirm. To exit the system settings, press the Menu button. The manual provides a detailed table of menu categories, sub-categories, and their factory default settings, including resolution options (1080FHD, 720P, WVGA, VGA for single lens; 1080P, 720P for dual lens), loop recording durations (Off/3mins/5mins/10mins), HDR (Off/On), exposure adjustments, motion detection (Off/On), audio recording (Off/On), date stamp (Off/On), G-sensor sensitivity (Off/High/Medium/Low), GPS (Off/On), license plate adjustment, parking monitor (Off/On), photo capture modes (Single/2sec/5sec/10sec), photo resolutions (12M/10M/8M/5M/3M/2M/1.3M/VGA), sequence (Off/On), quality (Fine/Normal/Economy), sharpness (Strong/Normal/Soft), white balance (Auto/daylight/cloudy/tungsten/Fluorescent), color (Color/Black & White/Sepia), ISO (Auto/100/200/400), anti-shake (Off/On), quick review (Off/2seconds/5seconds), date stamp for playback (Off, Date, Date/Time), delete options (Delete current/Delete all), protect options (Lock Current/Unlock Current/Lock All/Unlock All), slide preview durations (2 seconds/5 seconds/8 seconds), date/time formats (MM/DD/YY,DD/MM/YYYY/MM/DD), auto power off (Off/3mins/5mins/10mins), beep sound (Off/On), language selection (English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Russian), frequency (50Hz/60Hz), GPS time zone settings (ranging from GMT-12:00 to GMT+13:00), format (Micro SD Card), screen saver (Off/30sec/1min/2mins), delay shutdown (Off/5s/10s/30s), and default setting (Cancel/OK).

Micro SD Card Management: The device requires a Micro SD card for recording. The manual indicates that if a card is not inserted, a prompt will appear. It also notes that inserting a Micro SD card while the DVR is working will cause it to power off, suggesting that the card should be inserted before powering on or while the device is off. The time-lapse record feature is designed to save Micro SD card space. The menu also includes a "Format" option for the Micro SD card, which is a standard maintenance task for optimal performance and troubleshooting.

License Plate Adjustment: The device allows for the adjustment of license plate numbers. At the license plate adjustment interface, the Mode button is used to adjust the variable number or letters. The Up or Down buttons switch between 0-9 or A-Z. The OK button confirms and moves to the next setting. The Menu button saves the settings and exits the interface. This feature is useful for personalizing recordings with vehicle identification.
