Overview

The Drive Medical Ultra Light Plus, Semi Electric Bed (Item # 15560) is a medical bed designed for home care or institutional use, offering adjustable positioning for patient comfort and care. This semi-electric bed allows for motorized adjustment of the head and foot sections, while the bed height is manually adjustable.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Ultra Light Plus, Semi Electric Bed is to provide a comfortable and adjustable sleeping surface for individuals requiring medical care or assistance with mobility. The semi-electric design means that the head and foot sections can be adjusted using a hand pendant, providing ease of use for both the patient and caregiver. The bed's height, however, is adjusted manually, offering flexibility in positioning the bed at a suitable level for transfers and care. The bed is designed to be assembled by the owner and includes detailed instructions for setup and operation. A key safety feature is the ability to return the sleep surface to a horizontal position in the event of a power failure, thanks to an optional 9V battery backup (sold separately).

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The bed requires assembly, with clear instructions provided for attaching the head and foot springs, securing the sleep surface with cotter pins, and installing the motor.
  • Motor Installation Methods: Two methods are described for motor installation:
    • Method A: Motor installed when the bed frame is on its side. This involves aligning and inserting flanges into the motor compartments and snapping the motor flush to the actuator bar.
    • Method B: Motor installed from underneath the bed frame (horizontal to the ground). This involves removing motor covers, aligning the motor with the actuator under the head section, and lifting the motor into place.
  • Hand Pendant Control: The bed is operated via a hand control. This control illuminates when the bed is plugged into a grounded wall outlet or when two AA batteries (sold separately) are installed. The illumination serves as a safety feature, indicating proper power supply from the bed motor.
  • Bed Rail Installation: Bed rails are installed by lifting the head section, locating the rail receptacles, pulling them outward, returning the head section to flat, and turning the receptacles to receive the rails.
  • Height Adjustment: The bed offers two points of height adjustment:
    • Adjustment One: Located on the frame, providing a high and low position.
    • Adjustment Two: Located on the leg of the head and footboard. This involves loosening a thumb screw, pulling a spring-loaded knob, and sliding the leg to the desired height. Once the desired position is found, the thumb screw must be tightened.

Maintenance Features:

Drive Medical recommends regular maintenance and safety checks between users to ensure proper functioning and longevity of the bed.

  • Electronics:
    • Check all controls (foot and head) for proper operation.
    • Inspect all cables (power cord, pendant cord) for damage or fraying.
    • Ensure all plugs are fully inserted or attached.
    • Check and replace the 9V battery on the motor annually.
  • Bed Frame & Sleeping Surface:
    • Visually inspect all welds (head section, foot section, main frame).
    • Check joints between sleeping surface sections for loose fasteners.
  • Cleaning:

    • Periodically raise the head and feet sections to remove dust from the frame.
