Do you have a question about the DT Research DT415 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The DT415 is a versatile handheld POS terminal designed for efficient point-of-service applications, inventory management, and field services. It features a compact and lightweight design, making it easy to handle and operate in various environments. The device is equipped with a 3.5-inch outdoor-viewable touch screen, ensuring clear visibility even in bright conditions. Its IP54 sealed front panel allows it to perform reliably both indoors and outdoors, offering protection against dust and water splashes.

Function Description:

The DT415 integrates multiple data capture capabilities to streamline operations and improve productivity. It includes a Magnetic Stripe Reader (MSR) that supports ANSI/ISO Standards 7810, 7811-1/6, 7813, JIS X6301, X6302, and AAMVA. The MSR uses a two-frequency coherent phase (F2F) recording method and can decode ISO Track1 (IATA), Track2 (ABA), and Track3 (THRIFT) data. It supports bi-directional card swiping, with a speed range of 3 ips to 100 ips (7 cm/s to 250 cm/s). The MSR is designed for durability, with an electronic life of 125,000 hours and a head life of 1,000,000 passes.

For contactless data capture, the DT415 incorporates an RFID reader operating at 13.56MHz ±7KHz. It uses FSK modulation and has a reading range of up to 30mm, depending on the type of tags. The HF RFID reader supports ISO 15693, 14443A, 14443B, and Felica UID standards, enabling a wide range of RFID applications.

The device also features a 2D Barcode Scanner, capable of decoding both 1D and 2D symbologies. For 1D barcodes, it supports EAN/UPC, RSS, Code 39, Code 128, UCC/EAN 128, ISBN, ISBT, Interleaved, Matrix, Industrial and Standard 2 of 5, Codabar, Code 93/93i, Code 11, MSI, Plessey, Telepen, and postal codes. For 2D barcodes, it can decode Data Matrix, PDF417, Micro PDF 417, Maxicode, QR, Aztec, and EAN.UCC composite. The scanner operates in 2D mode at 56 images per second with auto-adaptive capabilities, and in linear emulation mode at 200 images per second. It has a horizontal scan angle of 38.9° and a vertical scan angle of 25.4°. The optical resolution is 752 (H) x 480 (V) pixels with 256 gray levels, and it requires a print contrast of down to 25%. The barcode scanner is available in standard range and high-density versions.

The DT415 is powered by an ARM 533 MHz processor and includes 128MB DDR II RAM and 128MB Flash ROM. It runs on either Microsoft® Windows® CE 6.0 or Windows® Mobile 6, providing a familiar and flexible operating environment. Connectivity options include built-in IEEE 802.11b/g WLAN and Bluetooth 2.0, facilitating wireless communication and data transfer.

The device's user interface includes a power button, four front buttons, and two trigger buttons, allowing for intuitive control. It also features a built-in speaker for audio feedback. For physical connections, it has one mini USB port (for charging and ActiveSync only) and one headset jack.

Usage Features:

The DT415 is designed for ease of use and portability. Its compact form factor (5.5 x 3.1 x 1.4 inches / 140 x 81.8 x 36.5 mm) and light weight (0.69 lbs / 314 g) make it comfortable to hold and operate for extended periods. The resistive touch screen can be operated with the included non-electronic stylus or a finger.

The device incorporates several LED indicators to provide real-time status updates. The Magnetic Stripe Reader indicator blinks orange twice, then lights solid blue when powering on, shows solid blue when ready, blinks blue once for a successful read, and turns orange then blue for a read error. The Power Mode Status indicator shows blue when the device is powered on, blinking blue when the main battery is charging, orange for low battery mode, and blinking orange for extremely low battery mode. It is off when the device is powered off or in suspend mode. The Wi-Fi Status indicator shows blue when connected to a wireless AP, blinks blue when connecting to a wireless AP, and is off when Wi-Fi is disabled.

Programmable buttons enhance the device's versatility, allowing users to customize functions such as enabling/disabling the soft keyboard. A suspend/resume button quickly puts the device into a low-power state and brings it back to operation. A system utility button provides access to essential system functions.

The DT415 comes with a stylus lanyard and a hand strap, improving ergonomics and preventing accidental drops during use. For charging, the device uses an AC/DC adapter with an input of 100-240V AC and an output of 5V DC, 2A. It is powered by a 3760 mAh, 3.7V Li-ion battery, providing ample operating time. An optional 4-bay Gang Charger (ACC-410-02) is available, capable of charging up to four handhelds simultaneously, making it ideal for deployments with multiple devices. This charger can be used on a table or mounted on a wall.

Maintenance Features:

To ensure the longevity and reliable performance of the DT415, certain precautions and maintenance practices are recommended. Users should always exercise care when operating and handling the device to prevent damage. It is crucial not to disassemble any portion of the DT415, as this will void the product warranty.

Only the power adapter or charging cradle provided by the manufacturer or its partners should be used with the device to avoid potential damage or safety hazards. In the unlikely event of abnormal noise, strange odor, or smoke, the device should be immediately powered down, all power sources disconnected, and the problem reported to the device provider.

The DT415 is designed to operate within a temperature range of 0°C to 40°C and can be stored at temperatures between -20°C and 60°C. It can withstand humidity levels from 0% to 90% non-condensing. These environmental specifications ensure the device's durability in various working conditions.

The device's enclosure is made of PC+ABS and TPR, materials known for their robustness and resistance to wear. The IP54 rating for the front panel signifies its protection against dust ingress and splashing water, reducing the need for frequent cleaning in dusty or damp environments. Regular cleaning of the touch screen and exterior with a soft, damp cloth is recommended to maintain hygiene and optimal performance.

The DT415 is compliant with FCC Class B, CE, C-Tick, and RoHS standards, indicating adherence to regulatory requirements for electromagnetic compatibility and hazardous substance restrictions. This compliance ensures the device is safe for use and environmentally responsible.
