Overview

The Egardia Motion Detector is a crucial component of your Egardia alarm system, designed to enhance the security of your premises by detecting movement within its field of view, also known as the detection zone. This device is engineered with advanced features to provide reliable security while minimizing the occurrence of false alarms, particularly in environments with pets.

Function Description

The primary function of the motion detector is to trigger an alarm when it senses movement within its designated detection zone. This action alerts the user and the alarm system to potential intrusions. A key feature of the Egardia motion detector is its pet-friendly design. It is specifically calibrated to ignore pets weighing up to 38 kg and not taller than 1.0 meter, such as cats and dogs. This intelligent design significantly reduces the likelihood of false alarms that might otherwise be triggered by household pets, ensuring that the alarm system only reacts to genuine threats.

To conserve battery life, the motion detector incorporates an automatic standby mode. After detecting movement and reporting an alarm, the device will automatically enter this standby state. This intelligent power management helps to extend the operational lifespan of the battery, reducing the frequency of replacements.

The device includes a status indicator and a register button, which serve dual purposes. The status indicator provides visual feedback on the current operational status of the motion detector, allowing users to quickly ascertain if the device is functioning correctly or if there are any issues. The register button is essential for integrating the motion detector with the Egardia alarm system, facilitating a straightforward setup process.

Activation of the motion detector is initiated by removing a battery tab. This tab, located at the back of the device, keeps the battery disconnected until installation, ensuring that the device is not active prematurely and preserving battery charge. Once the tab is removed, the motion detector becomes active and ready for registration with the alarm system.

For maintenance and troubleshooting, the motion detector is designed with a screw mechanism that allows access to its internal components. This screw, typically located at the bottom of the device, enables users to open the motion detector for tasks such as battery replacement or internal inspection.

Usage Features

Installing the Egardia Motion Detector is a four-step process designed for ease of use:

  1. Check Contents: The first step involves verifying that all necessary components are present in the packaging. This includes the motion detector itself (with a factory-installed battery), a bag containing screws and plugs for mounting, and double-sided tape for alternative mounting options.
  2. Add to Alarm System: This step focuses on registering the motion detector with your Egardia alarm system. Before mounting, the plastic battery tab at the back of the detector must be removed to activate the battery. Users should wait approximately 30 seconds for the status indicator to stop flashing, signifying activation. The alarm system's gateway should be turned off, with its top (Status) and bottom (Online) indicator lights lit green. The "Reset" button on the gateway needs to be pressed for at least 7 seconds, causing the gateway's top indicator light to flash green, indicating it is searching for new accessories. Pressing the register button on the motion detector will cause the gateway to beep once for successful registration or twice if already registered. After adding all accessories, pressing the "Reset" button again for at least 7 seconds returns the gateway to normal operation. Finally, users can log into their Egardia account, navigate to the "Alarm system" tab, and rename the registered motion detector for easy identification.
  3. Mount Motion Detector: Strategic placement of the motion detector is crucial for optimal performance. It should be installed in rooms with a high likelihood of burglary, ensuring that a burglar would move across its detection zone rather than directly towards it. The optimal mounting height is 1.90 meters for standard rooms and 1.70 meters for narrow corridors. When considering placement, it's important to avoid locations where objects like furniture or curtains could obstruct the detection zone, or where it might be directed at doors secured by other sensors. Direct sunlight, heat sources (e.g., log-fires, boilers, steam, radiators), or moving objects like curtains should also be avoided to prevent false alarms. For pet owners, placing the detector at a height of 2.30 meters can create a free movement zone of approximately 7.0 meters, further increasing the free movement zone with higher placement. It's important to carefully determine the height to ensure that larger pets are not detected, as above 1.0 meter, the detector will not react to weights up to 18 kg. The detector can be mounted using either double-sided tape or screws. For screw mounting, the front cover is removed, the pre-punched holes are used as a template to mark drill spots, and the detector is secured to the wall with screws and plugs.
  4. Check and Test: After installation, it is advisable to test the motion detector to ensure it functions correctly. This involves turning on the alarm system using a remote control (red button) and moving into the detector's field of view. A triggered alarm indicates correct installation. A critical note for testing is the device's 1-minute battery-saving function: the detector will only become active after it has not detected any motion for a full minute. Therefore, before testing, ensure the room has been empty for at least 1 minute.

Maintenance Features

The Egardia Motion Detector is designed for straightforward maintenance, primarily focusing on battery management.

Battery: The device operates on one 1.5V AA (LR6) Alkaline battery. The average battery life is between 3 to 5 years, depending on usage patterns. The motion detector provides several warnings when the battery power is low, typically about one month before it runs out completely:

  • The motion detector's status indicator will begin to flash.
  • A "Battery low level" message will appear under the "Alarm history" tab in your Egardia account.
  • You will receive a one-time notification via telephone, SMS, or email.
  • The central indicator light (Alarm) of your gateway will turn yellow. Once the battery is replaced, the gateway will revert to its normal status.

Replacing the battery: The process for replacing the battery is simple:

  1. Ensure that the alarm system is turned off.
  2. Remove the screw at the bottom of the motion detector and then remove the front cover.
  3. Remove the old battery and insert a new 1.5V AA (LR6) Alkaline battery, ensuring correct polarization.
  4. Replace the front cover and secure it with the screw at the bottom.

Testing the motion detector: To test the motion detector after maintenance or at any other time, press the "Reset" button on the side of the gateway for at least 5 seconds. The gateway's top indicator light (Status) will flash green, indicating it is ready to test a registered motion detector. The motion detector functions correctly if the gateway beeps twice when it senses motion or after you press the register button on the motion detector. Once testing is complete, press the "Reset" button of the gateway again for at least 5 seconds to return it to normal operation.
