Overview

The EINSTEIN The Tune MKII is a stereo integrated amplifier, designed to meet stringent standards of electrical design and mechanical integrity. It focuses on core essentials rather than superfluous features, aiming for realistic reproduction with utmost fidelity, rock-solid reliability, an intuitive user interface, and extended market value.

Function Description:

The EINSTEIN The Tune MKII is a double mono integrated transistor amplifier, incorporating extensive experience in analog and digital design. It serves as the central nexus of an audio system, designed to integrate into existing systems with minimal signal degradation or "artistic license." The amplifier's influence is vital, as even the best source or speakers cannot correct for losses or errors incurred by this key component.

The amplifier offers several technical attributes:

  • Extremely short signal paths: Minimizes signal degradation and interference.
  • Sophisticated power supply with high current headroom: Ensures stable and ample power delivery for dynamic performance.
  • Outstanding signal to noise ratio: Contributes to a clean and clear audio output.
  • Absolute thermal balance within the casing: Essential for long life expectancy and optimal function of electronic parts.
  • High bandwidth: Allows for detailed musical reproduction without phase problems.
  • No relays in the loudspeaker signal path: Eliminates potential limitations in dynamics.
  • Volume control realized with resistor network: Provides precise and high-quality volume adjustment.
  • Integrated phono preamplifier: Suitable for both MM (Moving Magnet) and high output MC (Moving Coil) cartridges.
  • Optional digital input: Supports USB, DSD, Optical, and SPDIF for high-resolution digital audio requirements.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power output: 84 watts/8 ohms (135 watts/4 ohms).
  • Damping factor: > 250.
  • S/N ratio:
    • Line: > 98dB
    • Phono MM: > 70 dB
    • USB/SPDIF: 95dB
  • Inputs:
    • Three high-input analog inputs (CD, Tuner, Line) with an input sensitivity of 550mV for rated power output / 50kOhm.
    • One phono input with input sensitivity of 2.5mV/MM, 1.2mV/MC.
    • Input impedance for MC cartridges is 200 Ohm. For MM cartridges, two jumpers need to be removed, resulting in an input impedance of 47 kOhm.
  • Outputs:
    • LINE OUT output, which can serve as either Preamp Out (output level changes according to volume / 1.8V for rated power output) or Tape Out (output level is independent of the chosen volume). The unit is originally delivered with Preamp Out; Tape Out can be configured by a dealer or distributor.
  • Fuses: 1.6A slow-blow for 230-240V version; 3.15A slow-blow for 100-125V version.
  • Weight: 14.5 kg (32 lbs).
  • Dimensions (W x D x H): 430 x 405 x 130 mm (16.9 x 15.9 x 5.1 inch).

Usage Features:

  • Power On/Off: The machine is turned on or off by pressing the rocker mains switch on the back panel, located beside the power inlet. The touch screen panel on the front confirms power. Thermal stabilization and final readiness are reached after approximately 2-3 minutes. Optimal operation conditions and stabilized sonics are achieved within half an hour of turn-on.
  • Front Panel Controls: All functions can be operated by pressing the buttons in the middle of the front panel.
    • Volume Adjustment: The two upper buttons control volume (+ for louder, - for lower). Volume is indicated by a row of blue LEDs from minimum (0) to maximum (63).
    • Input Selection: The lower two buttons are used to select the amplifier's input.
  • Remote Control (The Control): The Tune MKII comes with a custom-designed remote control for basic input selection and volume control.
    • Input Selection: The two upper buttons on the remote control are for input selection.
    • Volume Control: The two middle buttons control volume (- for lower, + for higher).
    • Mute Function: The lowest button mutes the sound (pressing once sets volume to zero; pressing twice returns to the original level).
    • Battery Replacement: To change batteries, remove the black acrylic cover (without the EINSTEIN printing) on the opposite side of the function panel by removing the four screws with the provided tool. Use two AAA batteries.
  • Component Connections: Before initial power-up, install interconnects to sources and cables to loudspeakers.
    • Interconnects: Use high-quality RCA-terminated cables with good non-oxidized contacts. EINSTEIN recommends their NF cable EINSTEIN The Balance for optimum synergy.
    • Loudspeaker Cables: Insist on cables with superior non-oxidized contacts and sufficient conductor mass to supply adequate current to the speakers, ensuring proper damping factor for transducer control. EINSTEIN recommends The Thrill loudspeaker cable.
  • AC Mains Connection: The unit is adjusted to the voltage of the importing country at the factory (230/115 volts). The voltage can be adjusted by an authorized dealer, distributor, or EINSTEIN. A standard power cord is supplied, but EINSTEIN recommends their custom-made power cord for enhanced performance.

Maintenance Features:

  • Safety Concerns:
    • Do not open the machine due to high voltages; this voids the warranty and risks electric shock.
    • Protect the machine against moisture and condensation.
    • Do not defeat the ground.
    • Only replace fuses with original type (1.6A slow-blow for 230-240V version; 3.15A slow-blow for 100-125V version). Disconnect from AC plug before replacing fuses.
  • Cleaning: Use a soft cotton cloth and a gentle glass cleaner to polish the acrylic front or to clean the stainless steel part of the front panel.
  • Service: In case of problems, contact your dealer or EINSTEIN. If a blown fuse indicates internal problems and the amplifier still refuses to operate after replacement, contact your dealer/distributor or EINSTEIN.
  • Performance Tips:
    • Ensure correct AC power phase.
    • Use high-quality low-impedance interconnects.
    • Utilize proper AC mains filtration or conditioning.
    • Employ a suitable performance power cord.
    • Control resonance with a well-engineered equipment support.
    • Ensure proper system grounding via a single earth ground.
    • Use high-quality loudspeaker cables.
  • Warranty: The EINSTEIN The Tune MKII carries a 3-year parts & labor non-transferable warranty. For detailed warranty conditions, contact your dealer or distributor.
