Overview

This document is a Use & Care Guide for an Electrolux Built-In Dishwasher, providing comprehensive instructions for its operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Electrolux Built-In Dishwasher is designed to clean soiled dishes, silverware, and cookware by spraying a mixture of hot water and detergent against their surfaces. The wash system fills the tub with water, pumps it through filters and spray arms, and then drains the soiled water, replacing it with clean water for subsequent cycles. The number of water fills varies depending on the selected wash cycle. The dishwasher utilizes energy-efficient motors for both washing and draining, and the wash motor often pulsates to vary water pressure and optimize cleaning performance. It offers various wash cycles tailored to different soil levels and item types, including Heavy Wash for heavily soiled items, Auto Wash which automatically adjusts based on soil level, Normal Wash for regularly soiled dishes, Eco Wash for lightly soiled items, Quick Wash for pre-rinsed dishes, Delicate for fine china, Stemware for crystal, and Rinse Only for dishes to be washed later.

Usage Features

To operate the dishwasher, users first load dishes, add detergent and rinse aid, select a desired wash cycle, and then choose any additional options before pressing START/CANCEL and closing the door. The control panel features intuitive icons for cycles, presets, and options, with selected symbols illuminating. The "SET" icon is used to confirm selections.

The dishwasher includes several loading features for flexibility:

  • Top Rack: Designed for cups, glasses, stemware, small plates, and bowls. It can be adjusted in height to accommodate taller dishes in either rack. To raise the rack, simply lift it; to lower, push a lever with thumbs and push downward simultaneously.
  • Bottom Rack: Suitable for plates, saucers, bowls, and cookware, with space for items up to 15 inches. Large items should be placed along the edge to avoid blocking the middle spray arm. Bowls and casseroles should face down or toward the center and be tilted for better drainage. Pan handles should not protrude through the bottom of the rack.
  • Fold-down Tines: Located in the lower rack, these tines can be left up for normal use or folded down for loading extra-large pots or pans.
  • Silverware Basket: Can be loaded while in the bottom rack or removed for loading on a counter. Small items like bottle caps can be placed in a covered section. Sharp items should be loaded pointing down to prevent injury. Silver and stainless steel items should not be mixed.
  • Knife Basket: A separate basket for large knives.
  • Versa Tray: Located in the upper rack, it holds spatulas, large spoons, and other large utensils.

Detergent is dispensed from a dedicated dispenser with a main wash cup and a pre-wash cup, which open automatically. The amount of detergent depends on water hardness, with recommendations provided in a usage guide. Rinse aid is automatically released during the last rinse, improving drying and reducing spots. The rinse aid dispenser has an adjustable setting to control the amount dispensed.

Several operational options enhance the washing process:

  • Hi-Temp Wash: Heats water to approximately 140°F (60°C) for improved cleaning and drying, available with Auto, Heavy, and Normal cycles.
  • Sanitize: Heats the final rinse water to 157°F (69.4°C) for 7 minutes to sanitize dishes, available in Auto, Heavy, and Normal cycles.
  • Delay Time: Allows users to delay the start of a cycle from 30 minutes to 24 hours.
  • Child Lock Controls: Prevents accidental changes to cycles or starting the dishwasher by locking the controls.
  • Wash Pressure: Allows selection of high or low wash pressure, or Air Dry which deactivates heat dry.
  • Chime: Provides audible feedback for selections and cycle completion, with adjustable volume.
  • Disable Display: A feature that turns off the display and audibles, useful for observing Jewish Sabbath/Holidays.
  • Status Window: Displays information such as delay start time, "CLOSE DOOR" prompt, and "WELCOME" message.
  • Blue Light: An indicator light on the floor that signals the completion of the wash cycle.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance:

  • Outside Cleaning: Wipe exterior surfaces with a mild, non-abrasive detergent and water. For stainless steel doors, use hot, soapy water and a dishcloth, or kitchen cleaners specifically designed for stainless steel.
  • Inside Cleaning: Remove spots on the door and tub with a damp, non-abrasive cloth.
  • Glass Trap Filter and Large Food Particle Trap: These components of the wash system need periodic cleaning. The Glass Trap Filter, located in the center of the Large Food Particle Trap, collects broken glass, straws, bones, and pits. To clean, grasp the handle, lift out, empty, and replace.
  • Drain Air Gap: If installed, ensure it is clean for proper drainage. This is usually mounted on the sink countertop and can be inspected by removing its cover.
  • Winterizing: For dishwashers in unheated locations, follow specific steps to disconnect service, including turning off electrical power and water supply, and draining water from the inlet and drain lines. To restore service, reconnect the lines, turn on power and water, and run a HEAVY WASH cycle with detergent.

Troubleshooting tips are also provided for common issues such as food soils left on dishes, dishes not dry, glassware/flatware spotted or cloudy, dishware chipped, dishware stained or discolored, etching, detergent left in cups, dishwasher leaks, normal operating sounds, water in the bottom of the tub, dishwasher not running, dishwasher not draining properly, and cycles taking too long. For persistent issues like spots and film due to hard water, a home water softener is recommended. The manual also lists error codes that may appear on the display, indicating specific malfunctions, and advises contacting customer care for assistance.
