Overview

This document describes the Elite Gourmet 8.5" Electric Personal Skillet, model EGL-6101, an appliance designed for household use.

Function Description:

The Elite Gourmet 8.5" Electric Personal Skillet is a compact electric cooking appliance intended for personal use. It features a non-stick cooking surface, making it suitable for preparing a variety of foods. The skillet is equipped with an On/Off switch for simple operation. Its design emphasizes ease of use and maintenance, with specific instructions for assembly, initial preparation, cooking, and cleaning.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: EGL-6101
  • Size: 8.5 inches (referring to the skillet's diameter or cooking surface size)
  • Power Cord: A short power cord is provided to reduce the risk of personal injury. Longer power-supply cords or extension cords can be used with specific precautions regarding electrical rating and placement.
  • Plug Type: Polarized plug, designed to fit into a polarized outlet only one way to reduce the risk of electrical shock.
  • Lid: Tempered Glass Lid with a Cool-Touch Knob. The glass lid is dishwasher safe (top rack only).
  • Cooking Surface: Non-stick coating.
  • Safety Certifications: ETL Listed (Intertek US), indicating compliance with North American safety standards.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The Cool-Touch Knob requires assembly onto the Tempered Glass Lid before first use. This involves positioning the knob base and knob, then securing them with a screw, washer, and silicone gasket from the underside of the lid using a screwdriver. Over-tightening should be avoided.
  • First Use Preparation: Before initial operation, the skillet must be thoroughly cleaned. All packaging materials should be removed, and the cooking surface cleaned with a damp cloth or sponge. Abrasive cleaners or scouring pads are not recommended for the non-stick surface. The cooking surface should be seasoned by applying a thin coat of cooking oil and rubbing it in with a paper towel.
  • Operation:
    • Place the skillet on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface.
    • Ensure the unit is unplugged and the power switch is off before plugging it into a wall outlet.
    • Push the power switch to "I" to start the unit.
    • Preheat the skillet uncovered for 2-3 minutes before cooking.
    • Add 1/2 tablespoon of cooking oil.
    • Place ingredients or food into the skillet and cook until done.
    • To turn off, push the power switch to "o" and unplug the unit.
    • When removing the lid, always tilt it away from the user to avoid hot steam.
  • Cooking Utensils: Nylon or silicone cooking utensils are recommended for use with the non-stick surface to prevent damage. Sharp-edged metal utensils (forks, knives, mashers, beaters, food choppers) should not be used as they can scratch the non-stick surface.
  • Safety Precautions during Use:
    • Do not touch hot surfaces; use handles or knobs.
    • Do not immerse the cord, plug, or switch in water or other liquids.
    • Close supervision is necessary when children are nearby; children are not recommended to operate the appliance.
    • Unplug from the outlet when not in use and before cleaning or handling parts.
    • Do not operate with a damaged cord, plug, or if the appliance malfunctions or is damaged.
    • Do not use outdoors.
    • Keep the cord away from hot surfaces and table/counter edges.
    • Do not place on or near hot gas/electric stoves or in a heated oven.
    • A fire hazard exists if the appliance is covered or touching flammable materials during operation.
    • Do not place paper, cardboard, plastic, or similar materials on the unit.
    • Use a hot pad or trivet under the appliance on certain countertop surfaces (Corian®, wood, laminates) to prevent heat damage.
    • Discard chipped, cracked, or scratched glass covers immediately as they can shatter.
    • Avoid placing very cold or frozen foods/liquids into a hot skillet to prevent excessive steam, spitting, and spattering.
    • The skillet takes several minutes to cool down after use.
    • Escaping steam is hot; use oven mitts when handling the lid or skillet body.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Always unplug the skillet from the wall outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
    • Drain excess oil or wipe the interior surface with a paper towel.
    • Clean the surface and edges with a damp cloth.
    • The glass lid is dishwasher safe (top rack only) or can be hand-washed with warm soapy water and a clean non-abrasive sponge or cloth.
    • The inner body of the skillet can be cleaned with a damp soapy cloth or sponge.
    • Do not use abrasive cleansers or materials on any part of the skillet to avoid damaging surfaces and the non-stick coating.
    • Do not pour cold water onto a hot skillet, as sudden temperature change can cause damage and create a burn/fire hazard.
    • Never immerse the electric skillet in water or any other liquid.
    • Clean the product after each use.
  • Storage: Ensure all parts are clean and dry before storing. Store the appliance in its box or in a clean, dry place. Do not store it while hot or wet. Do not wrap the cord tightly around the appliance; keep it loosely coiled.
