Overview

The Elite Gourmet 4QT. Old Fashioned Electric Ice Cream Maker (Model: EIM-924L) is a charming and functional appliance designed to bring the nostalgic experience of homemade ice cream, sorbets, and frozen yogurts to your kitchen. This electric ice cream maker combines traditional aesthetics with modern convenience, allowing users to create a variety of frozen treats with ease.

Function Description:

The primary function of this device is to churn and freeze liquid mixtures into delicious ice cream, sorbet, or frozen yogurt. It operates on an electric motor that drives a blending spatula within a freezing canister. The canister is surrounded by a mixture of ice and rock salt within an outer wooden bucket, which facilitates the freezing process. The continuous churning prevents large ice crystals from forming, resulting in a smooth and creamy texture. The device is designed for household use, making it suitable for families and individuals who enjoy preparing their own frozen desserts. It can produce a soft-serve consistency directly, with the option to further freeze the mixture for a harder texture.

Usage Features:

Operating the Elite Gourmet ice cream maker involves a straightforward process, beginning with preparation and ending with the enjoyment of your homemade treat.

  1. Pre-Chilling: Before use, the ice cream canister should be chilled in the freezer for 2-3 hours. This step is crucial for efficient freezing and should not exceed 6 hours.
  2. Ingredient Preparation: Users prepare their desired ice cream, sorbet, or frozen yogurt mixture according to a recipe. The manual includes a variety of recipes for different frozen desserts, such as French Vanilla Ice Cream, Chocolate Ice Cream, Cookies & Cream Ice Cream, Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, Strawberry Ice Cream, Gingerbread Ice Cream, Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream, Cookie Dough Ice Cream, Peach Ice Cream, Blueberry Cheesecake Ice Cream, Apple Pie Ice Cream, Rocky Road Ice Cream, Coffee Ice Cream, Cherry Cola Sorbet, Lemon Raspberry Sorbet, Pineapple Mango Sorbet, Pink Lemonade Sorbet, Pear Sorbet, Coconut Lime Sorbet, Honeydew Sorbet, Peach Sorbet (sorbet version), Frozen Yogurt, Strawberry Cheesecake Frozen Yogurt, Peanut Butter Frozen Yogurt, Peach Gelato, Strawberry Gelato, and Citrus Gelato.
  3. Filling the Canister: The prepared and chilled mixture is poured into the chilled freezing canister, ensuring it is not filled more than two-thirds full to allow for expansion during churning.
  4. Assembly:
    • The blending spatula is inserted into the canister, ensuring its bottom is fixed in the center of the canister's base.
    • The canister lid is placed on top of the canister.
    • The assembled canister is then placed into the plastic liner, engaging with the cone in the center of the liner.
    • The electric motor is positioned by aligning its rectangular end with the corresponding hole on the rim of the liner. The opposite end of the motor drops into another rectangular hole, and a slight counter-clockwise rotation secures the motor to the liner.
  5. Ice and Salt Mixture: The plastic liner is filled with ice up to the top of the canister. Then, 1-2 cups of rock salt are added on top of the ice. This ice and salt mixture creates the necessary cold environment for freezing.
  6. Churning Process: The power cord is plugged into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet. The motor begins to churn, and the canister should rotate, mixing the ingredients while the blending spatula remains stationary. If the canister does not spin, the assembly needs to be re-adjusted. The system is run for approximately 5 minutes to evenly chill the canister.
  7. Adding More Ice and Salt: As the ice melts (typically by 2-3 inches), more ice and rock salt are added to maintain the freezing temperature.
  8. Churning Duration: The machine is allowed to churn for approximately 45 minutes. If the motor stops prematurely, users are advised to unplug the cord, break up any ice blockages with a stirrer, and restart the process.
  9. Completion and Serving: Once churning is complete, the unit is unplugged, and the motor is removed. Ice and salt are cleared from the lid to prevent them from falling into the ice cream. The cover is removed, and the blending spatula is carefully lifted out, with any excess ice cream scraped off. The resulting ice cream will have a soft-serve consistency. For a harder consistency, the contents can be transferred to a freezable container and frozen for an additional 3-4 hours.
  10. Tips for Optimal Results:
    • Using crushed ice in the liner is recommended, ensuring small, coarse pieces.
    • Periodically mixing the salt and ice together with a stirrer every 10-15 minutes during operation helps maintain consistent freezing.
    • For recipes requiring pre-cooking, ingredients should be prepped several hours in advance to allow mixtures to chill and expand.
    • The drainage hole on the side of the bucket should always be kept open to drain excess salt water.

Maintenance Features:

Proper cleaning and maintenance are essential to ensure the longevity and hygienic operation of the ice cream maker.

  1. Unplugging and Cooling: Always unplug the machine and allow it to cool completely before cleaning or storing.
  2. Electric Motor Cleaning: The electric motor should be wiped clean with a damp cloth to remove any debris. It is crucial never to immerse the motor in water or any other liquids, as this can cause electrical damage.
  3. Plastic Liner and Wooden Bucket Cleaning: The plastic liner and outer wooden bucket should be cleaned with a warm soapy sponge to remove salt-water residue. They should then be rinsed and dried thoroughly.
  4. Plastic Parts Cleaning: The plastic canister lid, blending spatula, and other plastic accessories should be washed in warm soapy water and dried thoroughly.
  5. Freezing Canister Cleaning: The freezing canister should be washed in warm soapy water and dried thoroughly. It is important never to freeze the canister while it is still wet to prevent damage.
  6. Abrasive Cleaners: Users are advised not to use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads on any part of the appliance.
  7. Dishwasher Use: The accessories are not dishwasher safe and should be hand-washed.

The Elite Gourmet 4QT. Old Fashioned Electric Ice Cream Maker provides a reliable and enjoyable way to create homemade frozen desserts, combining ease of use with a classic design.
