SAMPLING
The following procedure is to be regarded as a guide for obtaining a
indication of the salt content of the soil and of the solutions used in
connection with various culture methods. Samples must be taken in a jar
or bottle which has been carefully cleaned and preferably rinsed out with
demineralized water as any salt residue will cause an increase in the
measured conductivity.
1 IRRIGATION WATER
EC Evaluation
< 0,75 Good 1 EC corresponds to 700 mg/ litre
0,75 - 1,50 Usable
1,50 - 2,25 High
> 2,25 Very High
2 FEED SOLUTIONS.
EC Evaluation
< 0,80 Low Also have feed products
0,80 - 1,50 Medium determined induvidually
1,50 - 2,50 Normal
2,50 - 3,50 High
> 3,50 Very High
3 PEAT SUBSTRATES.
EC Evaluation
< 1,50 Low The EC of peat substrate is a
1,50 - 3,00 Fairly Low measure of the total salt
3,00 - 4,50 Normal concentration. A too high EC
4,50 - 6,00 High value can be caused by using
> 6,00 Very High salt rainwater or incorrectly
dosed artificial fertilizers.
4 GREENHOUSE SOILS
EC Evaluation
< 1,00 Low The EC value of greenhouse soil
1,00 - 2,00 Normal samples are an indication of the salt level.
2,00 - 3,00 Fairly High Salty soil can be caused by using salt
3,00 - 4,00 High Rainwater or artificial fertilizer or by
> 4,00 Very High insufficient watering.
