Do you have a question about the Elvie Curve and is the answer not in the manual?
The Elvie Curve is a non-powered breast pump designed to help lactating women express and collect milk from their breasts. It is intended for single-user use and aims to provide a comfortable and convenient way to manage milk flow.
The Elvie Curve works by creating gentle suction to collect milk. It is a wearable device that fits discreetly inside a nursing bra. The primary function is to collect milk, either from one breast while feeding from the other, or to relieve engorgement. It is not designed for active pumping or long-term milk storage. The device consists of two main parts: a silicone Pouch and a polypropylene Frame. The Pouch is where the milk collects, and the Frame provides structural support and houses the Nipple Hole and a Valve for pressure release.
To begin using the Elvie Curve, first, slot the silicone Pouch securely into the polypropylene Frame. Once assembled, position your nipple in the center of the Nipple Hole. It's crucial that your nipple feels comfortable and is not pressing against the inside of the Pouch to ensure proper suction and comfort. To initiate suction, gently press the Pouch. If the suction feels uncomfortable or too strong, you can gently press the Valve to release some pressure and adjust the suction to a comfortable level. Before proceeding, it's a good practice to check that your nipple remains centrally positioned within the Nipple Hole. After achieving comfortable suction, position the Elvie Curve inside your nursing bra and pull the bra over the device, ensuring it is firmly pressed against your breast without any gaps. This helps maintain suction and keeps the device securely in place.
During a session, if you notice the suction dropping or feel the milk flow decreasing, you can press the Pouch again, even through your bra, to re-establish suction and encourage continued milk flow. The frequency of this action may vary, and users will learn what works best for their individual needs, often every couple of minutes. It's important to monitor the milk level in the Pouch to prevent overfilling, which could lead to spills.
To end a session, first, press the Valve to release the suction. Then, gently use your finger to break the seal around your nipple, allowing for easy removal of the device. Once removed, lay the Elvie Curve on its front while you prepare to decant the collected milk. The Elvie Curve is not designed for milk storage. To empty the milk, pour it through the Nipple Hole.
Milk collected over extended periods and left at room temperature for too long should not be fed to your baby. This emphasizes the importance of proper milk handling and storage guidelines, which are separate from the device's function.
Before cleaning or sterilizing, always disassemble the Elvie Curve by separating the Pouch from the Frame.
For sterilization, you have a few options. You can sterilize the parts by boiling them in water for five minutes. Alternatively, the Elvie Curve parts are suitable for microwave, steam, or cold water sterilizing methods. Always follow the instructions for your chosen sterilization method.
After each use, wash all parts of the Elvie Curve with clean, soapy water. Ensure thorough rinsing to remove all soap residue. As an alternative, the parts can also be placed on the top shelf of a dishwasher for cleaning.
For optimal hygiene and longevity, the Elvie Curve should be stored clean, dry, and fully assembled.
