To avoid bending the probe (rigid probes), or twisting and coming into contact with the
chamber wall (flexible probes), a small clearance distance between centering disc and
chamber bottom is recommended. The clearance distance of 1 in. (25 mm) is selected
with a dome shaped chamber bottom in mind, which may prevent the centering disc from
reaching the bottom.
