Heating and
cooling rate
Checks, if the specified average heating and cooling rate is reached.
Refrigeration The cooling sink and fans are checked to work properly together.
Gradient

Checks, if the sample block reaches the set gradient temperatures.
Heated lid Tests, if the heated lid reaches the set temperature and if it holds the
temperature for a longer time.
Regulation Tests, if the sample block is controlled properly.

In certain intervals the Biometra TRIO software will automatically recommend to exe-
cute the Extended Self-Test. Although it is not necessary to perform the test it is highly
recommendable to follow the instructions and to let check the instrument itself.
Before starting the Extended Self-Test insert a microplate or, if applicable, two strips or
a row of tubes to the first and last column of the sample block (see Fig. 71). It is very im-
portant to load the block with plastic ware since during the Extended Self-Test the
heated lid is tested and this test can only be executed properly with plastic ware in-
serted. Also the position of the plastic ware is important to ensure optimal pressure dis-
tribution and horizontal levelling of the heated lid.

If the plastic ware is properly inserted and the lid is closed the test can be started. To
start the Extended Self-Test press:
