The Erbauer ERB404SDR is a 240W 1/4 sheet sander designed for general purpose light polishing of wood and metals. It is a hand-held power tool that operates with small circular rotations for efficient material removal.
Function Description:
The sander is used for dry sanding and light polishing of various materials, primarily wood and metals. It features a dust collection system with a dust bag and an extraction adaptor for connecting to a vacuum cleaner, helping to manage harmful dusts generated during sanding. The tool is double insulated, providing additional protection against electrical insulation failure.

Usage Features:
- On-Off Switch: Located on the palm grip handle, with a protective cover. Depress to "I" to start, "0" to stop.
- Palm Grip Handle & Soft Grip: Designed for comfortable and secure handling.
- Sanding Paper Clamps: The sander uses a clamp system (clamp lever and clamp lever lock) to secure sanding paper. To remove paper, lift the clamp lever and move it away from the lock. To fit new paper, insert one end under the clamp, secure the lever, then press the paper tightly around the base plate and secure the other end. For hook & loop sanding paper, align and press onto the sanding pad.
- Paper Punch: For sanding paper without pre-drilled dust holes, a paper punch (9) is provided to create holes for dust extraction. Position the punch over the base plate with its sides on the edges of the base plate and press to perforate the paper.
- Dust Collection: Equipped with a dust collection outlet, a dust bag (11), and a dust extraction adaptor. The dust bag should be emptied every 5-10 minutes for efficient operation. The adaptor allows connection to a vacuum cleaner.
- Flush Sanding Facility: The baseplate design allows for flush sanding on three sides, providing easy access to corners and edges of mouldings.
- Orbital Sanding: The sander's small circular rotations enable efficient material removal. For a finer finish, use fine-grain sanding paper and move the sander in the direction of the grit. Avoid keeping the sander in one position to prevent uneven material removal.
- Safety Precautions:
- Always wear safety glasses or eye shields and a dust mask. Hearing protection is recommended.
- Disconnect from power before adjustments or maintenance.
- Do not sand materials containing asbestos or lead-based paint.
- Ensure the work-piece is firmly clamped.
- Do not stop the sander by applying force to the base plate.
- Use only good condition, suitable sanding paper.
- Avoid prolonged usage at very low speeds. If the tool becomes hot, run it at maximum speed with no load for 2-3 minutes to cool the motor.
- Start the sander before sanding and turn it off after stopping sanding.
- Do not sand without sandpaper fitted to prevent base-plate damage.
Maintenance Features:
- General Cleaning: Remove the plug from the socket before any adjustment, servicing, or maintenance. The power tool requires no additional lubrication. Clean with a dry cloth; do not use water or chemical cleaners.
- Storage: Store the power tool in a dry place.
- Ventilation: Keep motor ventilation slots clean and all working controls free of dust.
- Cord Replacement: If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid a safety hazard.
- Plug Replacement (UK & Ireland Only): If replacing the fitted plug, connect the blue wire to the neutral (N) terminal and the brown wire to the live (L) terminal. Never connect live or neutral wires to the earth terminal. Only fit an approved 13AMP BS1363/A plug with the correct rated fuse. Dispose of severed cables carefully to prevent engagement into a socket.
- Troubleshooting:
- If the sander doesn't operate, check the mains plug.
- If the sander doesn't abrade, check and replace worn or damp sanding paper.
- If the sander doesn't move smoothly, check for loose, damaged, or wrinkled sanding paper and replace if necessary.
- For faults that cannot be rectified, return the sander to an authorized dealer for repair.
The Erbauer ERB404SDR comes with a 2-year guarantee, covering faults developed within this period, excluding fair wear and tear, misuse, lack of maintenance, consumable items, accidental damage, cosmetic damage, failure to follow guidelines, and loss of use.
