The ESCO Model #20408 Pneu-Tek Impact Driven Tire Demounter is a specialized tool designed for the safe, simple, fast, and economical demounting of tires, particularly suited for agricultural, one-piece grader, loader, forestry, and backhoe tires. This instruction manual provides comprehensive guidance on its operation, emphasizing safety precautions and proper usage.

Function Description:

The primary function of the ESCO #20408 Pneu-Tek Impact Driven Tire Demounter is to facilitate the demounting of tires from their rims. It achieves this through an impact-driven mechanism, utilizing an impact wrench to extend or retract a pulling/pushing foot. The tool is designed to separate the tire bead from the rim, making the demounting process more efficient and less physically demanding than traditional methods. It works by engaging the tire bead and applying controlled force to push it off the rim, first one bead and then the second.

Usage Features:

The demounter's operation involves a multi-step process, emphasizing lubrication and precise tool placement.

Lubrication and Initial Tool Placement:
- Before demounting, both sides of the tire must be generously lubricated. The manual recommends using liquid lubricant to penetrate between the rim and tire bead.
- The tool is inserted between the rim and tire bead by laying it horizontally. Downward pressure with the foot is used to ensure the heel of the pulling foot is below the plane of the rim.
First Bead Demount:
- Once inserted, the tool is brought to an upright position to engage the puller foot between the rim and the inside tire bead.
- An impact wrench is then used in a counter-clockwise manner to begin tool engagement. As the pushing foot approaches the rim, it's crucial to ensure that the plastic protective angle properly engages the rim edge.
- The pulling foot is retracted with the impact wrench while simultaneously pivoting the tool towards the wheel center. This motion continues until the first bead is removed. Users are cautioned against forcing or excessively prying with the tool, instead allowing its natural motion to remove the tire.
- After the first bead is removed, the impact tool is turned in a clockwise motion to reset the pushing arm.
Second Bead Demount:
- For the second bead, the tool is placed at an approximately 45-degree angle and inserted between the second tire bead and the rim.
- Once inserted, the tool is brought to an upright position, ensuring a secure hold on the second bead with the pulling foot.
- The push foot is then extended using an impact wrench in a counter-clockwise motion. As the pushing foot meets the rim, the plastic protective angle must properly engage the rim edge, and the natural motion of the tool should be allowed to rock backward.
- The pushing foot continues to extend with the impact wrench until the tire is completely free of the rim.
- Finally, the tool is returned to its original retracted position.
