The Eurovac II 50-179 is a compact portable sanding system designed for the efficient elimination of sanding dust at the source. This self-contained dust collector is engineered for portability and ease of use, allowing operators free movement during sanding tasks, which contributes to more efficient, cost-effective, and less hazardous operations.
Function Description:
The primary function of the Eurovac II 50-179 is to collect sanding dust directly from air tools, preventing it from becoming airborne and settling in the workspace. It features an automatic activation system that turns the unit on and off in conjunction with the air tool (not provided) used with the system. This automation streamlines the sanding process, ensuring dust collection is active only when needed. The system is designed to be a comprehensive solution for maintaining a clean and safe working environment during sanding operations.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Power Supply: Requires a dedicated 15A 120V circuit. It is crucial that no other electrical equipment is plugged into this circuit to prevent blowing fuses or tripping circuit breakers, as the vacuum system demands the full power capacity of the circuit.
- Air Supply: A minimum ½” air supply line using a 3/8” I.D. disconnect (not provided) is required on the supply side to run two tools simultaneously. The air supply must be clean, dry, and regularly lubricated (daily) to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the system. 1¼" I.D. disconnects can be used where compressed air exits.

Usage Features:
- Automatic Activation: The system automatically turns on and off with the air tool, providing convenience and energy efficiency.
- Manual Override: A manual override power switch is located on top of the control panel, allowing the portable unit to be used for straight vacuum cleaning when needed.
- Tool Compatibility: The air tool must be converted to the type used for vacuum sanding to integrate with the system.
- Portability: The compact construction and inclusion of wheels (as seen in the diagram) make the unit easily portable, facilitating movement around the workspace.
- Dual Tool Operation: The system is capable of running two tools simultaneously, provided the minimum ½” air supply line with a 3/8” I.D. disconnect is used.
Maintenance Features:
- Daily Maintenance (Every 8 hours of use):
- Canister Emptying: The canister should be emptied daily. This involves unlatching the two latches, removing the gasket and motor housing, dumping debris into a suitable container, and then reassembling. It is critical to ensure the gasket lines up 100% with the rim of the can and separator canister upon re-attachment to prevent poor performance and premature wear.
- Filter Maintenance:
- Dislodging Dirt: Before removing the filter, the side of the can should be slapped to dislodge heavy dirt particles.
- Hepa Filter Cleaning (Fig. 1): Unclamp the motor housing, remove the Hepa filter slowly, and gently bang the edge of the bottom plate of the filter against a garbage can until all dirt is dislodged. The Hepa filter can also be vacuum cleaned.
- Disposable Bag Filter (Fig. 2): The system also uses a disposable bag filter, which needs to be replaced when full.
- Reinstallation: After cleaning or replacing, reinstall the filter into the vacuum canister, ensuring it is properly centered. Re-attach the motor housing, making sure the gasket is clean and free of any debris.
- Filter Replacement:
- If a filter becomes completely clogged and cannot be cleaned, it must be replaced. Replacement filters can be purchased from a Eurovac distributor or directly from the factory. New filters must have the same gasket as the original. Installation is the reverse of removal.
- Carbon Brush Installation/Replacement: This is a detailed procedure involving several steps to ensure proper motor function.
- Remove the top crown of the motor housing (three screws).
- Disconnect and mark wiring to the motor.
- Locate and mark the position of the two screws securing the top mounting cowl.
- Remove the top mounting cowl.
- Remove the load spring.
- Remove the top bearing disc.
- Mark the position of the field coil on a support post for reassembly.
- Lift the wrap-around band up and over the field coil and bearing, feeding wires back through the plastic bushing for more room.
- Remove the two brush clamp screws and the brush clamp.
- Remove the clip from the carbon brush holder using pliers to wiggle the lead and a flat blade screwdriver to pry the clip forward. If necessary, the plastic holder may need to be broken to retrieve the clip and wire.
- Install the clip in the new brush holder and reassemble in reverse order, aligning the field coil and top mounting cowl, and finally mount the filter unit to the top of the motor.
Regular and diligent maintenance, as outlined, is crucial for ensuring maximum performance and long service life of the Eurovac II 50-179 portable sanding system.
