5.6. Gigabit Network
5.6.1. Functional Overview
The Gigabit connection makes it possible to transfer video and audio material from your
XS server to external systems via the TCP/IP network.
The external systems can be the following:
• A storage system or an archiving system, such as XStore or XF2.
• A non-linear editing system, such as Xedio, Apple Final Cut Pro, or Avid.
However, the external systems cannot read the raw files coming from a XS server. For
this reason, XTAccess is used as a “gateway” between your server and the IT world. It
takes up the role of gateway used so far by XFile/XStream as it creates file formats
compliant with external systems.
XTAccess is directly connected to the XS server through the Gigabit network via an FTP
client. It runs on an XP workstation and is mainly controlled by the external systems (no
user interface) via XML files or other processes.
The Gigabit connection fulfills the following functions in relation with the XS server:
• Backup of clips from an XS server.
• Restore of clips to an XS server.
• Transfer of clips between servers.
Please refer to the XTAccess user manual for full information about the possible
workflows with third-party systems.
