Make sure that the AC power supply circuit is not overloaded. Use proper
over-current protection, such as a circuit-breaker, to prevent over-current
conditions.
To install an 800 W DC power supply in a switch, perform the following tasks in the
order listed:
1. Make sure you have the tools and materials you need. See Required Tools and
Materials for Installing a 800 W DC Power Supply on page 64.
2. Prepare the power cables and ground cable by stripping off the insulation. See
Prepare the Cables for an 800 W DC Power Supply on page 64.
3. Insert the power supply into the switch. See Installing an 800 W DC Power Supply on
page 65.
4. Connect the ground wire to the power supply. See Connect the Ground Wire to an
800 W DC Power Supply on page 65.
5. Connect the power supply to the DC source voltage. See Connect an 800 W DC
Power Supply to the Source Voltage on page 66.
6. Energize the DC circuit. See

You need the following tools and materials to install or remove a 800 W DC power
supply in an Extreme Networks switch.
#6 AWG copper cable for grounding the power supply and connecting the power
supply to the DC power source. (red and black grounding cables are included with
the power supply):
Red for the –48 V connection (–)
Black for the –48 V RTN connection (+)
Green or green with yellow stripe for the ground connection
Connection hardware appropriate to the installation site:
Hardware for connecting the power wires to the DC source
Hardware for connecting the ground wire to the site grounding point
Stripping tool
#1 cross-head (Phillips) screwdriver
ESD-preventive wrist strap
Thermal protective gloves (for removal of a warm power supply)
Prepare the Cables for an 800 W DC Power Supply
You will need two cable wires for each installed DC power supply: one input cable
and a grounding cable. As a best practice, each cable should have differently colored
insulation, as described in Required Tools and Materials for Installing a 800 W DC
Power Supply on page 64.
To prepare the cable wires, follow these steps:
1. Strip 6 mm (0.25 inch) of insulation from one end on each cable wire if necessary.
