WHAT IS A BREW PROFILE?
Think of a Brew Profile like a brew recipe. Customize as many variables as
you’d like to create your own, and share it with others. We got you started
with our favorite Fellow profiles, created by our in-house Q Graders.
You can also download profiles from some of the best roasters in the
world in the Fellow app. Once you select a Brew Profile, Aiden will
automatically adapt it to the quantity of coffee you’d like to brew.
Here are the variables you can customize in a Brew Profile:
• Temperature
• Ratio
• Bloom ratio
• Bloom duration
• Bloom temperature
• Number of pulses
• Time between pulses
• Pulse temperature
We suggest focusing on temperature and ratio when first creating a new
Brew Profile. As you dial in your brew, you can dig deeper to see which
other variables need to be tweaked to your tastes. Heads up: when
brewing the largest batches with ratios lower than 1:18, the basket may
require extra cleaning.
While you can create a Brew Profile directly on Aiden, we recommend
downloading the Fellow app for the optimal experience!
WHAT IS A BLOOM?
Wetting the coffee grounds to release carbon dioxide for a well-
balanced, better extracted, and more flavorful cup.
Bloom ratio: This is the coffee-to-water ratio of your bloom. The
amount of water should be just enough to saturate the bed and let
the coffee breathe a bit. This is usually 2 or 3 times the initial weight
of the coffee grounds. The default ratio is 1:2.
Bloom duration: This is the time your coffee bed will sit to release
carbon dioxide (or degas) after the bloom. The default is 30 seconds.
Bloom temperature: This is the water temperature of the bloom.
The default temperature is the same as your brew temperature.
Temperature: This is the overall
brew temperature. The default
temperature is 205°F/96°C.
Ratio: This is your coffee-to-
water ratio. The default is 1:16,
which means one part coffee
to 16 parts water.
WHAT IS A PULSE?
A pulse is a dose of water that is delivered to the bed of coffee.
We use pulses of water during single serve brewing to assist with
agitating the coffee bed to get the highest extraction possible.
Number of pulses: This is the total number of pulses you want
throughout your brew. The default is 3 pulses for single serve and
1 for batch brew.
Time between pulses: This is the length of time between pulses.
The default time is 23 seconds.
Pulse temperature: This can be individually set if, for example, you
want an extra hot finish or a colder start. The default temperature is
the same as your brew temperature.
