Overview

This document is a user manual for FORCALI Gas Water Heaters, specifically models FWH-6A-GLP and FWH-10A-GLP, designed for use with LPG gas.

Function Description

The FORCALI gas water heater is an atmospheric draught (room vented) instantaneous water heater designed to provide hot water. It operates without the need for electrical energy for fume extraction. The device is designed for both indoor and outdoor installation, provided it complies with current gas installation regulations. Its primary function is to heat water on demand, eliminating the need for a pilot flame, which contributes to gas savings.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Models: FWH-6A-GLP and FWH-10A-GLP.
  • Gas Type: LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas).
  • Ignition: Automatic, powered by two 1.5V LR20 batteries. It features double ignition spark activation upon hot water demand.
  • Thermal Power:
    • FWH-6A: 12KW, producing a maximum of 6 litres/minute of hot water with a 25°C thermal increase.
    • FWH-10A: 20KW, producing a maximum of 10 litres/minute of hot water with a 25°C thermal increase.
  • Gas Consumption: Optimized for efficiency, contributing to energy savings.
  • Water Inlet Pressure: Minimum 0.2 bar, maximum 10 bar.
  • Gas Supply Port: 1/2" thread, marked "Gas".
  • Gas Supply Pipe Diameter: Minimum 10mm, with 15mm preferred for optimum operation.
  • LPG Gas Inlet Pressure: Must be permanently controlled by a fixed regulator suitable for the gas type.
  • Cold Water Inlet/Hot Water Outlet: 1/2" threads, marked "Cold inlet" and "Outlet A.C.S.".
  • Hot Water Outlet Diameter: Minimum 10mm.
  • Flue Requirements (Indoor Installation):
    • Minimum diameter: 90mm for 6L models, 110mm for 10L models.
    • Minimum height from ceiling: 400mm.
    • Minimum total height: 600mm, with a cowl against the wind at its end.
    • Must be vertical.
  • Ventilation Requirements (Indoor Installation): Adequate ventilation through approved grids for permanent and sufficient air inlet and outlet, in accordance with current Gas Installation Regulations.
    • For Caravan Holiday Homes (BS5482 part 2): 10 sq cm per kilowatt rating, divided equally high and low.
    • For open-bottomed cupboards in Caravan Holiday Homes (BS 5482 part 2 / EN 721).
  • Safety Features:
    • Double thermal protection to prevent excess temperature in hot water and at the outlet/combustion gases. The heater automatically shuts off under these conditions.
    • T.T.B. (Control Device for the Evacuation of Gases): Ensures proper evacuation of combustion products and interrupts gas supply to the burner if disturbances occur.
    • Over-pressure protection: Automatically relieves pressure through a discharge valve if water pressure exceeds 10 kg.

Usage Features

  • User-Friendly Controls: Water outlet temperature can be easily adjusted via a display located between the water and flame adjustment controls. This allows users to suit the temperature to their needs and can help save gas consumption.
  • Instantaneous Hot Water: Provides hot water on demand without a pilot flame, ensuring efficiency and convenience.
  • Progressive Gas Consumption: Features a small progressive function of gas consumption based on hot water demand, which is particularly useful for installations with thermostatic valves in bathrooms.
  • Installation Flexibility: Can be installed both inside and outside a building, offering versatility for different environments. For outdoor installations, a metal cabinet conforming to regulations is required for protection against atmospheric agents and strong air currents.

Maintenance Features

  • Battery Replacement: If the heater turns on with difficulty or the ignition spark is poor, the two 1.5V LR20 batteries housed in the bottom of the heater should be replaced.
  • Gas Hose Check: The rubber hose supplying gas from the bottle or battery must be checked and replaced in accordance with current gas installation regulations.
  • Frost Protection (in cold temperatures):
    1. Close the water inlet to the heater.
    2. Open the lowest hot water drain-off valve.
    3. Open the drain hydraulic valve in the lower part of the heater to allow water to drain and air to enter, preventing damage to the heat exchanger and water control valve.
  • T.T.B. Device Check: If the T.T.B. device activates, the burnt gas outlet should be revised by checking evacuation with a cooled mirror with running water or another approved measuring device.
  • Spare Parts: In case of damage to the T.T.B. device, only original spare parts should be used to ensure proper function.
  • Professional Installation and Commissioning: The unit must be installed and commissioned by a registered Gas Safe engineer. Failure to comply will invalidate any warranty.
  • Warranty: Heaters are guaranteed for 1 year. The warranty covers repair and free shipping of defective parts, including labor for the first year. It does not cover wear and tear, misuse, poor water/gas quality, lack of maintenance, frost damage (as prevention is a user responsibility), unsuitable fuel, defects in smoke management, manipulation by unauthorized persons, or use for purposes other than its design. The warranty certificate must be completed and sent within 30 days of first commissioning for validity. Damages caused by defective installation are not covered.
