No Narrow Escape
Many in the industry doubted Escape’s
ability to achieve a high safety rating
due to just 18 inches of crush space in
the vehicle’s design. The crush space is
located between the front of the
instrument panel and the back of the
front bumper. Escape’s front crash
structure (specifically the front aprons)
absorbs crash energy and helps pull it
away from the front of the vehicle and
away from the cabin. This design
enhances the ability of the crush space
to absorb crash energy.

Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD)

brake performance under all driving
conditions
The 2005 Escape received the highest five-star front and rear side-impact crash test ratings in government tests. Be sure to share
this important safety information with your customers. You can learn even more about the crash test ratings in the 2006
Appendices Book under Safety. Clearly, Escape provides an impressive level of crash performance protection. Engineers used
computer-aided engineering (CAE) techniques to sculpt the body structure for enhanced passenger protection. This may be a small
SUV, but when it comes to safety, smart is better than big.
