HEADLAMP CONTROL
Turning the headlampcontrol
clockwise to thefirst position
turns on theparking lamps,
instrument panel lamps,
license plate lampsand the
tail lamps. Continuingto turn
the headlamp controlto
the second positionturns on
the headlamps.
To usethe autolamp light-
sensitive, automatic on-off
control for theheadlamps,
turn the headlampcontrol
counterclockwise. If the
windshield wipers areturned
on for afixed period of time,
the exterior lampswill turn on
with the headlampcontrol in
the autolamp position.
To turnautolamps off, turn
the control clockwiseto the
OFF position.
To activatethe high beams,
simply push theturn signal
lever toward theinstrument
panel. Pull thelever toward
you to deactivatehigh
beams. Use thesame lever
to activate the“Flash to Pass”
feature. Pull thelever toward
you to slightlyactivate and
release it todeactivate.

PANEL DIMMER
Use this controlto adjust the
brightness of theinstrument
panel and allapplicable
switches in thevehicle during
headlamp and parkinglamp
operation. Move thecontrol
to the fullupright position,
past the detent,to turn on
the interior lamps.

FOGLAMP CONTROL
(IF EQUIPPED)
With the ignitionon, the
foglamps can beturned on
when the headlampcontrol
is in theparking lamp,
headlamp or autolamp
position, and thehigh beams
are not on.Simply pull the
headlamp control towardyou
to turn onthe foglamps. The
foglamp indicator lightwill
illuminate. The foglampswill
not operate whenthe high
beams are activated.

WINDSHIELD WIPER /
WASHER
The multifunction lever
controls the windshieldwiper
modes, speeds andthe
windshield washer. Rotate
the end ofthe control away
from you toincrease the
speed of thewipers. Rotate
the control towardsyou to
decrease the speed of
the wipers.
For windshield washer
control, push theend of the
stalk briefly tocause a single
swipe of thewiper. With a
quick push andhold, the
wipers will swipethree times
with washer fluid.With a long
push and hold,the wipers
and washer fluidwill activate
for up toten seconds.
SPEED CONTROL
For your speedcontrol to
work, you mustpress and
release the ONbutton.
Pressing and releasingthe
OFF button disengagesthe
system and turnsit off. To set
a speed, pressthe ON
button, accelerate tothe
desired speed,press the
SET+ button,t hentake your
foot off theaccelerator pedal.
Youcan increase your speed
by pressing andreleasing the
SET+ button untilyou reach
the desired speed,increasing
speed by 1mph (1.6 km/h)
with each tap.You can
decrease speed inthe same
way using theSET- button.
Pressing the RSM(resume)
button will automatically
return the vehicleto the
previously set speed.To
disengage the speedcontrol,
press the OFFor CNCL
button or depressthe
brake pedal.

MESSAGE CENTER
(IF EQUIPPED)
With the ignitionin the ON
position, the messagecenter
displays important vehicle
information by constantly
monitoring vehicle systems.
Youmay select display
features on themessage
center for adisplay of status.
The system willalso notify
you of potentialvehicle
problems with adisplay of
system warnings. Formore

your Owner's Guide.

STEERING WHEEL
AUDIO CONTROLS
(IF EQUIPPED)
These controls allowyou to
adjust the radioand CD
features from thesteering
wheel. Press MEDIAto select
AM, FM1, FM2 orCD. Press
SEEK to accessthe
previous/next strong station
or track ona CD. Press
VOL+/- to adjustvolume, and
MUTE to mutethe volume.

TILT STEERING
COLUMN
To adjustthe steering wheel,
push the adjustmentlever
down to unlockthe steering
column. While thelever is
down, tilt thesteering column
to your desiredposition.
Then, while holdingthe
steering column inplace,
pull the leverup to its original
position to lockthe steering
column. Do notadjust
while driving.

SERVICE ENGINE SOON
The service engine soon
indicator lamp illuminates
when the ignitionis first
turned to theON position to
check the bulb.If the light
turns solid orblinks, the On
Board Diagnostics System
has detected amalfunction.
Drive in amoderate fashion
(avoid heavy accelerationor
deceleration) and haveyour
vehicle serviced immediately.

ABS WARNING LAMP
In an emergency, apply
continuous force tothe brake
pedal. Do notpump the
brakes. Any pulsationor
mechanical noise youmay
feel or hearis normal. If the
lamp doesn’t illuminateor
stays on, haveyour vehicle
serviced. Normal braking
is still functionalunless
the brake warninglamp is
also illuminated.

THROTTLE CONTROL /
TRANSMISSION LAMP
The throttle control/
transmission lamp illuminates
when a powertrainfault has
been detected. Contactyour
dealer as soonas possible.

FUEL PUMP
SHUT-OFF SWITCH
This devicestops the electric
fuel pumpfrom sending fuel
to the engine whenyour
vehicle hashad a substantial
jolt. Afteran accident, if the
engine cranksbut does not
start, thisswitch may have
been activated.The fuel pump
shut-off switchis located in
the frontpassenger footwell
area inthe right upper corner.
HOOD RELEASE
To openthe hood, pull the
hood release handleunder
the bottom ofthe instrument
panel near thesteering
column. Go tothe front of the
vehicle and releasethe
auxiliary latch located under
the front centerof the hood.
Use the proprod to support
the raised hood.Lift the prop
rod by thesleeve, not the
bare metal.
UNLEADED FUEL
RECOMMENDATIONS
For optimum performance,
use “Regular” unleadedfuel
with a pump(R+M)/2 octane
rating of atleast 87. Wedo
not recommend theuse of
gasolines labeled as
“Regular” with octaneratings
of 86 orlower that are sold in
high altitude areas.
TIRE PRESSURE
Safe operation ofyour Taurus
requires that yourtires be
properly inflated. TheFord
recommended inflation
pressure is foundon the
Tire Label orthe Safety
Compliance Certification
Label located nearthe front
door latch onthe edge of the
driver'sdoor. At leastonce a
month andbefore longtrips,
inspect each tireand check
the air pressurewith a digital
or dial-type tiregauge. Don't
forget the spare.Air pressure
should be checkedwhen the
tires are cold.Inflate all tires
to the inflationpressure
recommended by Ford
Motor Company.
