Switching on and o the fog
lamps
Switching on the front fog lamps
1. Switch on the ignition.
2. Press the button pa

Switching o the front fog lamps

If the fog lamps are switched on with
switched-o lights , switched-on
parking lamps or switched-on automatic
lighting c

, the low beam head-
lamps will be switched on independently of
the ambient brightness.

Switching on the rear fog lamp
1. Switch on the ignition.

the instrument cluster lights up yellow.

If the fog lamps are switched on with
switched-o lights
, switched-on
parking lamps or switched-on automatic
lighting control , the low beam head-
lamps will be switched on independently of
the ambient brightness.
In vehicles with a factory-fitted towing
bracket: the vehicle’s rear fog lamp is
not switched on if a trailer with rear fog
lamp is electrically connected to the vehi-
cle.
Parking lamps
Switching the side lights on and
o
Side lights
If the side lights are switched on, both
headlights light up with side lights together
with parts of the tail light clusters, the
number plate lighting and the buttons in
the centre console and the dash panel. The
automatic lighting control function is acti-
vated from a speed of around 10 km/h
(around 6 mph) or when a distance of
around 100 m (around 328 ) has been
covered.
If the vehicle is not locked from outside
when the ignition is switched o, the con-
tinuous parking light on both sides of the
vehicle switches on automatically aer
around 10 minutes to reduce 12-volt vehicle
battery discharge page 115.
Automatic switch-o of side lights and
parking lights
The vehicle will detect a weak 12-volt vehi-
cle battery and switch o the side lights or
parking light so that the engine can still be
started – but aer 2 hours at the earliest.
If the battery capacity is not sucient for
the side lights or parking light to remain
switched on for 2 hours, the 12-volt vehicle
battery can be discharged to such an ex-
tent that it is no longer possible to start the
engine .
WARNING
Accidents and serious or even fatal inju-
ries c
an occur if the vehicle is parked
without sucient illumination, as other
road users might have diculty seeing the
vehicle, or may not see it at all.

Always park the vehicle safely and with
sucient lighting.
·
Observe any applicable country-specif-
ic legal requirements.
·
Switch on the parking light on the right
or le side if possible if illumination of
the vehicle for several hours is necessa-
ry.
