Electronic immobiliser
T
he immobiliser helps to prevent the en-
gine from being started and driven with an
unauthorised vehicle key.
There is a chip in the vehicle key. This deac-
tivates the immobiliser automatically when
a valid vehicle key is located inside the ve-
hicle.
The engine can only be started using a gen-
uine Ford vehicle key with the correct code.
Coded vehicle keys are available from
a qualified workshop.
The vehicle cannot be operated prop-
erly if you do not have a genuine key.
Starting the engine
V
ehicles with ignition lock:
1. Switch on the ignition page 143.
2. Vehicles with a diesel engine: When the
diesel engine is being pre-heated, the
indicator lamp
lights up in the instru-
ment cluster.
3.
Depress and hold the brake pedal until
the electric parking brake has switched
o.
4. Vehicles with a manual gearbox: Fully
depress the clutch pedal until the en-
gine has been started. Shi the gear
stick to a neutral position.
5. Vehicles with automatic transmission:
Engage the neutral position N or the
parking lock P.
6. turn the vehicle key further in the igni-
tion lock – do not depress the accelera-
tor.
7. Release the vehicle key once the engine
has started.
Vehicles with push button ignition switch:
1. Press the push button ignition switch
once. The ignition is switched on.
2. Depress and hold the brake pedal until
the electric parking brake has switched
o.
3. Vehicles with a manual gearbox: Fully
depress the clutch pedal until the en-
gine has been started. Shi the gear
stick to a neutral position.

. Press the push button ignition switch
page 145 without depressing the ac-
celerator. There must be a valid vehicle
key in the vehicle before the engine can
be started.
5. Vehicles with a diesel engine: When the
diesel engine is being pre-heated, the
indicator lamp
lights up in the instru-
ment cluster.

. Release the push button ignition switch
once the engine has started.
WARNING
Toxic gases can enter the vehicle interior if
the engine is started in unventila
ted or
closed spaces. This can cause serious in-
juries and lead to death by suocation.

Never start the engine in unventilated
or closed spaces or allow it to run in un-
ventilated or closed spaces, e.g. in ga-
rages.
WARNING
Hot components and exhaust gases can
ignite combustible or explosive materials
located nearby. This can lead to fires and
cause serious or fatal injuries.

Never start the engine or allow the en-
gine to run if oil, fuel or other highly
flammable service fluids are close to
the vehicle or are leaking from the vehi-
cle.
·
Never use start boosters.
WARNING
A vehicle that is le unattended when the
vehicle’s drive system is activated can
cause accidents and serious injuries.

Never leave the vehicle unattended
with the engine running, particularly if
a gear or position has been selected.
WARNING
Careless or unsupervised use of the vehi-
cle key c
an lead to accidents or injuries.

Always take all vehicle keys with you
every time you leave the vehicle. Chil-
dren or third parties could lock the vehi-
