Car wash function
Vehicles with automatic transmission: If the
ignition is switched o in position N, it is
still possible for the vehicle to roll for the
next 30 minutes. The parking lock P is then
engaged automatically if the vehicle is sta-
tionary. A related warning is shown on the
instrument cluster display 1 minute before
the parking lock is engaged automatically
page 195.
Warning when leaving the vehicle
In order to indicate that the vehicle is capa-
ble of rolling when leaving the vehicle, an
acoustic warning signal sounds when the
driver door is opened and corresponding
warning messages appear on the display of
the instrument cluster.
WARNING
When the engine is switched o, c
ertain
vehicle systems do not function or func-
tion only to a restricted extent, e.g. brake
servo or power steering. As a result, more
force has to be used for steering and
more pressure has to be applied to the
brake pedal to stop the vehicle. If the ve-
hicle is in motion, this can cause loss of
control over the vehicle, accidents and
serious or fatal injuries.

Never switch the engine o while the
vehicle is in motion.
WARNING
The airbags and belt tensioners do not
func
tion when the engine is switched o.
This can result in accidents and serious or
fatal injuries.

Never switch the engine o while the
vehicle is in motion.
WARNING
When the ignition is switched o, the
steering lock may activate and you will no
longer be able to steer the vehicle. If the
vehicle is in motion, this can cause loss of
control over the vehicle, accidents and
serious or fatal injuries.

Never switch o the ignition while the
vehicle is in motion.
WARNING
The components of the exhaust system
bec
ome very hot and can ignite highly
flammable materials, e.g. undergrowth,
leaves, dry grass or spilt fuel. This can
lead to a fire and cause serious or fatal in-
juries.
·
Always park the vehicle so that no part
of the exhaust system can come into
contact with highly flammable materi-
als underneath the vehicle.
·
Never apply additional underseal or an-
ti-corrosion coatings to the exhaust
pipes, catalytic converters, heat shields
or particulate filter.
NOTICE
If the vehicle has been driven at high load
for a long period, the engine c
an overheat
when it is switched o.
·
Allow the engine to run in neutral posi-
tion for approximately 2 minutes before
switching it o.
Vehicles with ignition lock: In vehicles
with an a
utomatic transmission, the
vehicle key can be removed from the igni-
tion lock only if the parking lock P is engag-
ed.
Aer the engine is switched o, the ra-
diator fan in the bonnet space may run
on for some minutes, even if the ignition is
switched o or the vehicle key has been re-
