Navigation
Introduction
T
he current vehicle position is determined
by means of a global satellite system. All
measured values and any trac informa-
tion reports are compared with the availa-
ble map material in order to enable optimal
navigation to the destination.
Acoustic navigation prompts and graphic
representations guide the user to the desti-
nation.
Depending on the country, some Infotain-
ment system functions can no longer be
selected when the vehicle is travelling
above a certain speed. This is not a mal-
function, but simply a legal requirement.
If you sell or loan the vehicle, we recom-
mend resetting the Infotainment system to
the factory settings → page 238. This is the
only way of deleting all personal data, e.g.
information used for navigation.
WARNING
If settings, destination inputs and
changes for the na
vigation system are
made while the vehicle is in motion, this
can distract the driver and cause acci-
dents and injuries.
·
Always drive with your full attention
and responsibly.
·
Configure settings and enter destina-
tions and changes for navigation only
when the vehicle is stationary.
If a turn is missed during a route guid-
anc
e, the navigation may recalculate
the route.
The quality of the output navigation
recommendations depends on the
navigation data available and, depending
on country, any reported trac disruptions.
Depending on country, select “Online
mode” and a mode with location data
in the privacy settings before using the on-
line functions and mobile online services of
the navigation system → page 230.
The corresponding mobile online serv-
ice must be activated in order to use
the online functions and mobile online
services, e.g. trac information. Only then
will trac information be output in the nav-
igation system, for example. If no trac in-
formation is available, the following sym-
bol may be displayed, depending on vehi-
cle:
.
Limita
tions of the navigation function
When the Infotainment system cannot re-
ceive any data from GPS satellites, e.g. in
a tunnel, navigation can still continue using
the vehicle sensors.
In areas that are not or only partially digi-
tised in the Infotainment system’s memory,
the Infotainment system also tries to ena-
ble route guidance.
If navigation data is unavailable or incom-
plete, the navigation system may be unable
to determine the exact vehicle position. As
a result, the navigation may not be as exact
as usual.
Road layouts are subject to continuous
change, e.g. due to road works. If the navi-
