Once you have fitted the b
ase carrier bars,
you can then secure the respective roof
load carrier to them.
Remove the roof load carrier in the fol-
lowing situations
— The roof load carrier is no longer needed.
— Before entering an automatic car wash.
— When the vehicle height exceeds the re-
quired clearance height, e.g. in a garage.
WARNING
Incorrect attachment of the roof load car-
rier and c
arrier system and incorrect use
may result in luggage or the entire struc-
ture becoming detached from the roof.
This can lead to accidents and cause seri-
ous or fatal injuries.
·
Always install the roof load carrier and
carrier system correctly and in accord-
ance with the manufacturer’s assembly
instructions.
·
Attach the roof load carrier only at the
specified mounting points.
·
Always install special carrier systems
for bicycles, skis, surfboards, etc. cor-
rectly and in accordance with the man-
ufacturer’s assembly instructions.
·
Use the roof load carrier and carrier sys-
tem only if they are undamaged and fit-
ted correctly.
·
Check that the roof load carrier is se-
cured before starting your journey and
tighten as necessary aer driving
a short distance.
·
During a long trip, check all bolts and
fasteners at each stop.
·
Do not carry out any modifications or
repairs to the roof load carrier or carrier
system.
NOTICE
The height of the vehicle is changed by the
installa
tion of a roof carrier and the load
secured to it. The vehicle may suer con-
siderable damage if the clearance height is
insucient, e.g. in the case of underpasses
and garage doors.
·
Check and compare the height of the ve-
hicle with clearance heights.
NOTICE
Depending on the equipment, if compo-
nents on the vehicle roof (
e.g. roof aerial, as
well as the movement path of the boot lid)
are impeded by the roof carrier and its load,
the vehicle may be damaged.
·
Make sure that the roof carrier is posi-
tioned correctly on the roof and that no
components are impeded.
When the roof load carrier is fitted,
c
onsumption increases due to the in-
creased air resistance.
Loading the roof load carrier
Please refer to at the start of the
chapt
er on page 290.
Maximum permissible roof load
The maximum permitted roof load is
100 kg (approx. 220 lbs).
The roof load limit refers to the combined
weight of the roof load carrier and the load
carried on the roof →
.
Make sure you are aware of the weight of
the roof load carrier and the load to be
transported. Weigh the load if necessary.
However, you will not be able to carry the
maximum permitted roof load if you are us-
ing a roof load carrier with a lower load rat-
ing. In this case, do not exceed the maxi-
mum weight limit for the load carrier sys-
tem which is specified in the manufactur-
er's installation instructions.
Distributing the load
Distribute the load evenly and secure it cor-
rectly → .
Checking mounting
A
er fitting the roof carrier, drive a short
distance and then check all mounting ele-
ments. Check again at regular intervals.
WARNING
Accidents and vehicle damage can occur
if the ma
ximum permitted roof load is ex-
ceeded.
