to be replaced. If both tyres on one side of
the vehicle, both tyres on one a
xle, or all
tyres are damaged, the factory-supplied
jack must not be used. Instead, go to a suit-
ably qualified workshop.
The following activities must be carried out
to change a wheel.
1. Prepare the vehicle for a wheel change
→ page 365.
2. Remove spare wheel → page 366.
3. Remove wheel cover or wheel bolt caps
→ page 369, → page 368, → page 370.
4. Loosen the wheel bolts → page 370.
5. Li the vehicle → page 371.
6. Remove the damaged wheel and fit the
spare wheel or temporary spare wheel
→ page 372.
WARNING
Changing a wheel at the side of the road
c
an be dangerous.
Serious accidents and fatal injuries can
occur if the vehicle and working area are
not properly secured.
·
Change the wheel yourself only if you
are familiar with the necessary actions.
Otherwise, seek assistance from a suit-
ably qualified workshop.
·
Stop the vehicle as soon as it is possible
and safe to do so.
·
Park the vehicle at a safe distance from
moving trac.
·
To reduce the risk of unintended vehicle
movement, always switch o the en-
gine and move the selector lever to P
position.
To reduce the risk of unintended vehicle

gine and engage a gear in vehicles with
a manual gearbox.
·
Apply the electronic parking brake.
·
Move all passengers, especially chil-
dren, a safe distance away from the
working area and from moving trac.
·
To warn other road users, switch on the
hazard warning lights and set up the
warning triangle.

Jack up the vehicle only on a firm and
level surface. So ground or surfaces at
an incline under the vehicle jack may
c
ause the vehicle to slip o the jack. If
necessary, use a large, strong board or
similar support for the jack.
·
Use a non-slip underlay, e.g. a rubber
mat, to prevent the jack from slipping
on smooth surfaces such as tiled floors.
·
Always use suitable and undamaged
tools to change the wheel.
·
The wheel bolt tightening torque
should be checked immediately with
a correctly functioning torque wrench
immediately aer changing a wheel.
·
If your vehicle is equipped with a Tyre
Pressure Loss Indicator, you must im-
mediately adapt the system again aer
a wheel change → page 356.
If the spare tyre is not the same as the
tyres tha
t are mounted on the car –
for example in the case of winter tyres or
a temporary spare wheel – only use the
spare tyre in the event of a breakdown for
a short period of time and drive with extra
care. Replace the temporary spare wheel
with a normal wheel as soon as possible.

Park the vehicle at a safe distance from
moving trac. Observe all the impor-
tant information on parking → page 194.
The ground must be firm and level. So
ground or surfaces at an incline under
the vehicle jack may cause the vehicle
to slip o the jack. If necessary use
a large, strong board or similar support
for the vehicle jack.
2. Switch on the hazard warning lights

3. Ensure that all occupants exit the vehi-
cle and go to a safe place away from
