Your vehicle is equipped with control units
that have the ability to store data based on
your personalised settings. The data is stor-
ed locally in the vehicle or on devices that
you connect there, e.g. a USB data storage
device or digital music player. You can de-
lete some of this data and also select
whether you want to share the data via
your subscribed services → page 230.
Data in comfort and convenience sys-
tems
The data collected includes, but is not limi-
ted to, the following:
— Position of seat and steering wheel.
— Interior climate control settings.
— Radio station buttons.
Data in the Infotainment system
The data collected includes, but is not limi-
ted to, the following:
— Music, videos and album covers.
— Contacts and corresponding address
book entries.
— Navigation destinations.

The modem has a SIM card. The modem
wa
s activated when the vehicle was manu-
factured and regularly sends messages to
maintain the connection to the mobile net-
work, receive automatic soware updates
and send vehicle-related data to us, e.g. di-
agnostic data. These messages may con-
tain information that identifies your vehicle
and SIM card, as well as the electronic seri-
al number of the modem. The operators of
the mobile networks could have access to
further information, e.g. identification of the
respective mobile communications mast.

The modem transmits this informa-
tion continuously unless you deacti-
vate the modem or stop transmission of
vehicle data by the modem by changing the
modem settings → page 230.
The service may be unavailable or in-
terrupted for various reasons, e.g. due
to environmental or topographical condi-
tions or coverage by the data plan.

Mobile device data

If you connect a mobile device to the vehi-
cle, you can display data from this device,
e.g. music and album covers, on the
touchscreen. You can use the system to
share your vehicle data with mobile apps
on your device.
The mobile app feature works through the
connected device and transmits data to us
in the USA. The data is encrypted; it in-
cludes, for example, the vehicle identifica-
