If objects that can move easily are le in
the vehicle, e.g. loose sheets of paper or
mirror hangers.
If the vibration alarm of a mobile tele-
phone is switched on.
Permanent deactivation of the interior
monitoring system and anti-tow
alarm is not possible.
Only the anti-the alarm will be acti-
vated if doors or the boot lid are still
open when the anti-the alarm is activa-
ted. The interior monitoring system and an-
ti-tow alarm will be activated only aer the
doors and boot lid have been closed.
The SAFELOCK function will also be
deactivated if the interior monitoring
system and anti-tow alarm are switched
o.
Boot lid
Introduction
T
he boot lid is unlocked and locked togeth-
er with the doors.
In vehicles with Keyless Entry, the boot lid is
unlocked automatically when the vehicle is
opened page 81.
A symbol in the instrument cluster display
indicates if the boot lid is not closed prop-
erly.
Do not drive on! Close the boot lid
pa
ge 91.
This symbol is also visible when the ignition
is switched o and will go out a few sec-
onds aer the vehicle has been locked
when all doors and lids are closed.
WARNING
Incorrect and unsupervised unlocking,
opening or closing of the boot lid c
an
cause accidents and serious injuries.

Open or close the boot lid only when
there is no-one in the movement path
of the boot lid.
·
Always keep the boot lid closed while
the vehicle is in motion.
·
Close and lock the boot lid and all
doors when the vehicle is not in use.
·
Check tha
t the closed boot lid is flush
with the surrounding body parts.
WARNING
Temperatures inside a locked vehicle can
rea
ch extremes of heat or cold, according
to season. This can cause serious injuries
and illness or fatalities, especially in the
case of small children.
·
Ensure that no one remains in the vehi-
cle.
·
Never leave children playing unatten-
ded in or around the vehicle, especially
when the boot lid is open. Children
could climb into the load compartment,
shut the boot lid and trap themselves
inside.
WARNING
If the boot lid is not closed correctly, this
can cause the rear window to shatter and
lead to serious injuries.
·
Never close the boot lid by pressing
with your hand on the rear window.
NOTICE
If the boot lid is opened or closed where
there is insucient clearanc
e, this may re-
sult in damage.
·
Check whether there is enough clearance
before opening or closing the boot lid,
e.g. in garages.
NOTICE
Incorrect use of the rear window wiper can
dama
ge the component and lead to the
component being torn o.
·
Never use the rear window wiper to hold
or fix a load.
