Occupant protection
Side airbags
Side airbags are tted inside the
seatback of the front seats. A label
indicates that side airbags are tted to
your vehicle.
The side airbags will deploy during
signicant lateral collisions. Only the
airbag on the side affected by the
collision will deploy. The airbags will
inate within a few thousandths of a
second and deate on contact with the
occupants, thus providing protection
for the head and rib areas. During minor
lateral collisions, overturns, front collisions
and rear collisions, the side airbags will
not deploy.
Event data recording
Your vehicle is tted with an event data
recorder, which is capable of collecting
and storing data during a crash or near
crash event. The recorded information
may assist in the investigation of such an
event.
To access this information, special
equipment must be directly connected
to the recording modules. Ford does
not access event data recorder
information without obtaining consent,
unless pursuant to a court order or
where required by law enforcement,
other government authorities or other
third parties acting with lawful authority.
Other parties may seek to access the
information independently of Ford.
Seat belts
WARNINGS
Wear a seat belt and keep
sufcient distance between
yourself and the steering wheel. Only
when you use the seat belt properly,
can it hold you in a position to achieve
its optimum effect. See Sitting in the
correct position (page 61).
Use a seat belt for only one
person.
Use the correct buckle for each
seat belt.
Do not use a seat belt that is slack
or twisted.
Do not wear thick clothing. The
seat belt must t tightly around
your body to achieve its optimum effect.
Position the shoulder strap of
the seat belt over the centre of
your shoulder and position the lap strap
tightly across your hips.
Seat belt pretensioners have a lower
deployment threshold than the airbags.
During minor collisions, it is possible
that only the seat belt pretensioner will
deploy.
