Load carrying
For cargo carrying purposes, the
roof rails must be used together
with the roof rack/bars. The roof rails
must never be used alone to carry
cargo. Otherwise, damage to the roof
or paint or a possible loss of cargo may
result.
If you must carry a load on the
roof rack of the vehicle, use extra
caution when driving, and ensure the
load is secured. Remember that the
vehicle’s centre of gravity is altered by
the mass of the load on the roof, thus
affecting the driving characteristics.
Drive carefully. Avoid rapid starts, hard
cornering and abrupt stops. Crosswind
effects will be increased.
Check the security of the roof rack load
as follows:
Before starting•
After driving 50 kilometres•
At 1,000 kilometres intervals.•
To minimise wind noise when the roof
rack is not in use, cross rails should be
moved rearwards and placed together.
To reduce fuel consumption, cross rails
should be removed when not in use.
