Do you have a question about the Frascold DELTA-P and is the answer not in the manual?
The DELTA-P oil differential pressure switch is designed for lubrication pressure control in Frascold V, Z, and W semi-hermetic compressors. It is supplied as standard equipment with these compressors.
The DELTA-P pressure switch continuously monitors the differential pressure in the compressor's lubrication system. When the compressor starts, the red LED illuminates, indicating an insufficient pressure differential between the suction and discharge of the oil pump. Simultaneously, the output contacts of the pressure switch close, and a time delay begins. If the minimum required pressure differential is achieved within the programmed delay time, the red LED switches off, and the output contacts remain closed, allowing the compressor to operate normally. The time delay is then reset.
However, if the minimum pressure differential is not reached within the specified delay time, the output contacts open, causing the compressor to stop, and the red LED remains illuminated. Once the cause of the compressor shutdown is resolved, the operator can restart the compressor by pressing the reset push-button, provided that at least 90 seconds have passed since the shutdown.
The DELTA-P pressure switch also acts as a safety mechanism if the pressure differential intermittently drops below the set point for periods shorter than the programmed delay. Specifically, the compressor will stop within 425 seconds if the cumulative time of insufficient pressure differential reaches 50% of the total monitoring time. Similarly, it will stop within 760 seconds if the cumulative time of insufficient pressure differential reaches 40% of the total monitoring time. This ensures continuous protection against lubrication issues.
The DELTA-P pressure switch consists of two main parts: a control circuit and a sensor. The control circuit includes a fixing screw cap, a reset push-button, an LED signal lamp, and connecting cables. This component is housed within the compressor's terminal box. The sensor features an M20 x 1.5 male thread and is factory-mounted to the compressor's threaded pressure connection.
Installation is designed to be straightforward and quick, requiring no additional mounting brackets. For compressors already equipped with the necessary connection point but without the DELTA-P switch, the installation process involves:
For compressors already configured with the DELTA-P switch, the process for re-assembly or maintenance is simplified:
A key advantage of the DELTA-P design is that the control circuit can be removed from the sensor without any refrigerant leakage. This simplifies maintenance operations, as it avoids the need to evacuate the refrigerant system when servicing the electrical components of the pressure switch. The manual reset function ensures that the operator is aware of a lubrication issue and takes corrective action before restarting the compressor. The robust IP54 safety class indicates protection against dust ingress and splashing water, contributing to the device's durability and reduced maintenance needs in typical industrial environments.
