Overview

The Fuji Spray Sunless Spray Tanning System is designed for the efficient application of tanning solution products, enabling users to achieve a flawless tan with every application. This system is available in several series: soloTAN™, studioTAN™ (formerly miniTAN™), and salonTAN™.

Function Description

The core function of the Fuji Spray Sunless system is to atomize and apply tanning solution evenly onto the skin. It utilizes a turbine to generate air pressure, which is then delivered through a hose to an applicator. The applicator, depending on the model, can be either a bottom-feed or gravity-feed type, and it is responsible for mixing the air with the tanning solution and spraying it in a controlled pattern. The system is engineered to provide a consistent and fine mist, crucial for achieving a streak-free tan.

Usage Features

The system offers various features to enhance usability and control during the tanning process:

  • Model Variations:

    • 4200 T-PRO BOTTOM FEED SYSTEM: Includes a turbine (soloTAN™, studioTAN™, or salonTAN™), air hose, T-PRO Bottom Feed Applicator with a 0.8mm Aircap Set, extra duck bills and a pressure tube, user manual, cleaning brush, and wrench. This applicator is a "Bleeder" style, meaning air continuously flows from the front when the turbine is on, regardless of trigger engagement.
    • 4000 T-PRO GRAVITY FEED SYSTEM: Comes with a turbine (soloTAN™, studioTAN™, or salonTAN™), air hose, T-PRO Gravity Feed Applicator with a 1.0mm Aircap Set, user manual, cleaning brush, and wrench. This is a "Non-Bleed" style applicator, where air only flows when the trigger is engaged, allowing for immediate spray tan initiation upon trigger pull.
    • TAN7350 BOTTOM FEED SYSTEM: Features a turbine (soloTAN™, studioTAN™, or salonTAN™), air hose, M-TAN Bottom Feed Applicator with a 0.8mm Aircap Set, user manual, cleaning brush, and wrench. Similar to the 4200 T-PRO, this is a "Bleeder" style applicator.
  • Hose Connection: The air hose connects to the turbine's air outlet via a simple threaded connector. A brass Quick-Connect Coupler on the hose facilitates easy attachment of the applicator. Users slide back the collar on the coupler, insert the male fitting from the applicator handle, and release the collar to secure the connection. Hand-tightening is sufficient, and a wrench is not necessary.

  • Applicator Flushing: Before initial use or any spray tanning, it's recommended to spray a small quantity of water through the applicator to flush out any accumulated debris from assembly or shipping. This helps users familiarize themselves with the controls.

  • Turbine Safety: The turbine is equipped with a Breaker Switch that automatically turns off the unit in case of overheating or electrical malfunction. To prevent overheating, users must ensure filters are clean and in place, and the air hose is never kinked. The turbine air outlet (manifold) can become hot during use, so allowing it to cool before removing the hose is advised.

  • Gun Holder Installation (studioTAN™ and salonTAN™): These models include a separate gun holder. Two black screws and washers secure the holder to threaded inserts on top of the metal case. A single silver-colored screw attaches the holder to the side. Overtightening is not necessary; snug is sufficient.

  • Gun Holder Use: The applicator's hose connector (base of the handle) fits over the shaft of the gun holder, allowing the applicator to sit stationary. This provides a convenient resting place between spray tans.

  • Built-in Gun Holder (soloTAN™): The soloTAN™ turbine features a built-in gun holder slot on top, securely housing the cup with the applicator when not in use. However, transporting the turbine with the applicator in the slot is not recommended.

  • Spray Patterns:

    • 4000 and 4200 T-PRO Applicators: The Fan Pattern Control Knob (#10) is on the front-right side. Turning it clockwise produces a wide fan pattern, while counterclockwise yields a smaller fan pattern. Fluid output can then be adjusted.
    • TAN7350 Applicator: The Fan Pattern Control Knob (#6) is at the rear. Vertical positioning creates a wide fan pattern, and horizontal positioning results in a smaller pattern. Fluid output is adjusted in tandem.
    • Pattern Adjustment: To set a specific spray pattern, loosen Collar #1, turn Aircap #2 to the desired position (vertical for horizontal spray, horizontal for vertical spray, or a round pattern for touch-ups), and then tighten Collar #1 clockwise until snug.
    • Recommended Pattern: For spray tanning, a horizontal spray pattern (Aircap in vertical position) is most useful and simplest, reducing overspray and shortening spraying time.
    • Distance and Touch-ups: A general setting is about 4 inches wide from 6 inches away. For touch-ups or enhancing specific areas, a smaller, round spray pattern can be used, holding the applicator closer (1 inch or less).
  • Fluid Output Control: Fluid Knob #7 controls the fluid output. Turning it clockwise until the trigger cannot be pulled completely stops fluid flow. Then, turning it counterclockwise slightly releases a small amount of solution when the trigger is pressed. This allows users to set the desired solution output. Over-tightening the Fluid Knob can damage the needle.

  • Spraying Techniques:

    • Movement and Distance: Maintain a medium, steady speed and consistent applicator distance throughout the application.
    • Cup Position: Keep the solution cup as vertical as possible. Pointing the applicator too far upwards can temporarily stop liquid flow.
    • Applicator Storage: Never lay the applicator on its side after use, as this can cause solution to run out of the gravity cup or pressure tube. Use the gun holder instead.
    • Pattern Direction: Rotate the aircap to change the spray pattern direction, rather than tilting the applicator.
    • Trigger Engagement: Start moving the applicator in the desired spray direction before pressing the trigger. Pull the trigger immediately after beginning movement to avoid runs.
    • Overlap: Overlap each successive pass by about one-third the size of the spray pattern (approximately 2 inches) for even coverage.
    • Perpendicular Application: Always keep the applicator perpendicular to the person being sprayed. Vertical passes with a horizontal spray pattern are recommended for ease and best results in spray tanning.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the Fuji Spray Sunless system:

  • Daily Applicator Cleaning: Tanning solution should not be left in the applicator's cup overnight as it dries and can clog fluid passages.

    1. Unscrew the lid from the solution cup.
    2. Pour unused tanning solution back into its storage container.
    3. Rinse the solution cup and fill it with clean warm water.
    4. Re-attach the lid. Without removing the lid, turn Fluid Knob #7 counterclockwise to allow full trigger pull.
    5. Connect the hose to the applicator and turn on the turbine.
    6. Pull the trigger and spray water into a container, sink, or rag. Repeat if necessary.
    7. Wipe off any solution from the applicator or cup with a wet rag.
    8. For Gravity T-PRO models, ensure the pinhole in the lid is open and clean regularly.
    • For extra cleaning, a small drop of dishwashing liquid can be added to the first flush, followed by a flush with clean water. Never use abrasive cleaning materials or solvents.
  • Thorough Applicator Cleaning (4000 and 4200 T-PRO):

    • Remove Fluid Knob #7, Spring #9, and Needle #8 from the rear.
    • Remove Collar #1 and Aircap #2 from the front.
    • Use the supplied wrench to remove Fluid Nozzle #3. Be careful that Air Diffuser #4 and Diffuser Seal #5 do not fall out; keep the applicator pointing upwards.
    • Use the cleaning brush and warm soapy water to clean behind Fluid Nozzle #3.
    • The Air Cap, Fluid Nozzle, Needle, Air Diffuser, and Air Divider can be soaked in warm soapy water. Do not use solvents.
    • When reinstalling the Air Diffuser, carefully rest the Diffuser Seal on its back edge for perfect alignment.
    • Ensure the Locating Pin on the back of the Diffuser aligns with the matching hole in Air Divider #6 and the gun body (12 o'clock position).
    • Important: Do not soak the entire applicator in any liquid.
  • Thorough Applicator Cleaning (TAN7350):

    • Remove Fluid Knob #7, Spring #9, and Needle #8 from the rear.
    • Remove Collar #1 and Aircap #2 from the front.
    • Use the supplied wrench to remove Fluid Nozzle #3. Be careful that the Air Diffuser does not fall out; keep the applicator pointing upwards.
    • Use the cleaning brush and warm soapy water to clean behind Fluid Nozzle #3.
    • The Air Cap, Fluid Nozzle, Needle, Air Diffuser, and Air Divider can be soaked in warm soapy water. Do not use solvents.
    • When components are clean, reinstall the Air Diffuser by resting it on the front of the applicator and attaching Fluid Nozzle #3 with the wrench.
    • Install Needle #8, Spring #9, and Fluid Knob #7 after the front components are in place.
    • Important: Do not soak the entire applicator in any liquid.
  • Turbine Maintenance:

    • The only required maintenance is cleaning and replacing the filter(s).
    • salonTAN™ Filter: Pull the filter out from the bottom-right side of the turbine case. Wash in warm soapy water and dry before replacing.
    • studioTAN™ Filters: Pull the two filters out from the filter enclosures, one on each side. Wash in warm soapy water and dry before replacing.
    • soloTAN™ Filter: Pull the grip tabs on both sides of the grill outwards to release it, then pull the grill away from the main unit. Carefully remove the foam filter, clean and dry it, or replace it. Ensure the 6 tabs hold the foam in place when reinserting. Place the grill back on the main unit, ensuring it clicks into place.
    • Regular filter cleaning is essential for turbine maintenance. Having spare filters is recommended.
    • Store the turbine in a dry, moisture-free location.
