Taking Pictures in r (P AUTO) Mode
U Silent Mode
In situations in which camera sounds or lights may
be unwelcome, hold the DISP/BACK button down
until U is displayed (note that silent mode is not
available during movie or voice memo playback).
The camera speaker, flash, and AF-assist illuminator/
self-timer lamp turn off and flash and volume
settings can not be adjusted (note that the flash will
still fire in A mode). To restore normal operation,
press the DISP/BACK button until the U icon is no
longer displayed. Silent mode can also be set from
the setup menu (pg. 97).
The Indicator Lamp

The indicator lamp shows camera status as follows:

Glows green Focus locked.
Blinks green
Blur, focus, or exposure warning.
Picture can be taken.
Blinks green
and orange
Recording pictures. Additional
pictures can be taken.
Glows
orange
Recording pictures. No additional
pictures can be taken at this time.
Blinks orange
Flash charging; flash will not fire
when picture is taken.
Blinks red
Lens or memory error (internal
memory or memory card full or not
formatted, format error, or other
memory error).
