BIOS setup security functions
The Security menu in BIOS Setup offers you various options for protecting your personal data against
unauthorised access using passwords, e.g.:
● Setup password: preventing unauthorised calls to BIOS Setup
● System password: preventing unauthorised system access
Configuring password protection in the BIOS Setup
Setup and system passwords can be configured in the same way.

Before using the various options of password protection for your data security in the BIOS
Setup, please note the following hints:
● Be sure to note your passwords, as if you forget your password, you cannot access
your BIOS Setup and/or your system.
Passwords are not covered by your warranty and a charge will be made for
assistance.
● Back up your data on external data carriers at regular intervals.
● We recommend that you print out the following instructions, as these cannot be
displayed while setting the password.

Passwords can be up to eight characters long. You can use all alphanumeric characters
and need not distinguish between uppercase and lowercase characters.
Please refer to section "
Settings in the BIOS Setup" for a description of calling and
operating the BIOS Setup.
With the password that you have set in BIOS Setup, you can also prevent booting of the
operating system.
► Call BIOS Setup and select the Advanced BIOS Features menu.
► Select the type of protection you require under Security Option: Setup password or system
password.
► Confirm your selection with the Enter key.
► Return to the BIOS Setup main menu.
► Select Set Password.
► Enter the password and press the Enter key.
With Confirm new Password you are asked to confirm the password.
► Enter the password again and press the Enter key.
The new password will take effect when the device reboots.
If you have configured a setup password and want to call BIOS Setup, you must enter the setup
password.
