Configuring password protectio n in BIOS Setup Utility
Before using the various options for password protection in the BI OS Setup utility
to increase data security, please observe the following:
Make a note of the passwords a n d keep them in a safe place. If you forg et your
supervisor HDD password you will not be able to access your notebo ok. Passwords
are not covered by your warranty and a charge will be made for assistance.

eight characters long and contain l etters and nu mbers.
No distinction is m ade be
tween uppercase and lowercase.
Protecting BIOS Setup Utility (supervisor and
user HDD password)
If you have opened these op erating instructions on the screen, we recommend that
you print out the following instructions. B ecause you cannot call the instructions
onto the screen while y ou are setting up the password.
BIOSSetupUtility
You prevent unauthorized use of the BIOS Setup Utility with both the supervisor and the user
HDD password. The supervisor HDD password gives you access to all functions of the BIOS
Setup Utility, while the user HDD password only provides some of the functions. You ca n only
set a user HDD password if a supervisor HD D password ha s already been assigned.
Please refer to the ""Settings in BIOS S etup Utility" , Page 56 section for a
description o f how to call up and operate the BIOS S etu p Utility.
Setting supervisor and user HDD password
► Start the BI
OS Setup Utility and go to the Security menu.
► Select the Set Supervisor Password field and press the Enter key.

new Password: you are asked to e nter a p assword.
► Enter the passw ord and press the Enter key.

► Enter the password again and press the Enter key.
Changes
have been saved is a confirmation that the new password has been saved.
► To set the user HDD p assword, se lect Set User P assword and proceed exactly
as when configuring the supervisor HDD password.
If you d
o not want to change any other settings, you ca n exit BIOS Setup Utility.
► In the Exi t menu, select the option Save Changes & Exit.

The notebook will be rebooted and the new passw ord will come into effect. It will now be necessary
to first enter yo ur supervisor or user HDD password in order to op en the BIOS Setup Utility.
Please note that the user HDD password only p rovides access to a few of the BIO S settings.
