Usage Features

The machine is equipped with a user-friendly control panel featuring several keys and indicators:

  • Test key: Folds two sheets without counting, useful for checking fold accuracy.
  • Start/Stop key: Initiates and halts the machine's operation.
  • Clear/Reset key: Clears counter indications and resets errors.
  • Numerical keys (1000, 100, 10, 1): Used to input the desired number for subtraction counting.
  • Counter: Displays the number of sheets processed.
  • Check lamp: Illuminates when paper stock is low or to indicate paper feed trouble locations.

Preparation Steps:

  1. Setting Table 1 and 2: These tables must be properly fitted onto the studs on the side plates. The stopper plate on Table 1 should be centered. Incorrect setup can lead to improper folding or machine instability.
  2. Setting Paper:
    • Pull out the paper stacking table and lift the auxiliary table.
    • Raise the paper feed table lever.
    • Adjust the paper guide according to the paper stock size.
    • Place paper on the feed table with the printed side facing up (or printed side down for fold-out).
    • Load paper neatly, with the leading edge flush with the front plate of the feed tray.
    • Lower the paper feed table lever to set the paper.
    • Ensure paper is dry if printed, to prevent ink stains on rollers. Avoid using curled, wrinkled, or ruled paper.
  3. Setting Paper Exit Roller: Adjust the paper exit roller to the correct paper stock size to prevent coiling or paper jams during ejection.
  4. Setting Paper Stacking Table: Pull out and set the stacking table to ensure smooth ejection of folded sheets.

Operation Procedure:

  1. Switching Power On: Insert the power plug into the outlet and then switch on the power. Always remove the power plug after use.
  2. Setting Paper Fold Position: Use the half-nut lever to move the stopper plate to the desired position, matching the stopper plate mark with the fold position. The stopper plate locks automatically. For single fold, set to "ALL SIZES." Fine adjustments can be made with the stopper adjustment knob if wrinkles or irregular folding occur.
  3. Test Folding: Press the Test key to fold two sheets and verify the fold accuracy.
  4. Adjusting Paper Fold Position: If the fold position is incorrect, refer to the Adjustment Knob Set Chart in the manual to determine the direction to turn the fold position adjustment knob.
  5. Slant Ejection Adjustment: Turn the slant ejection adjustment knob to the right if the folded paper slants right, and to the left if it slants left. For non-single folds, place the folded paper face down on Table 1 for adjustment.
  6. Starting Folding: Press the Start/Stop key to begin continuous folding. Press it again to halt. The counter adds up sheets. For a specific number of sheets, input the desired count using the numerical keys.
  7. Stopping Paper Feed: Press the STOP key to halt paper feed during operation.

Safety Instructions:

  • Danger: Immediate danger to life and health. Ensure electrical grounding. Use specified voltage (110-120 VAC, 220-240 VAC, 50-60Hz). Avoid placing objects or liquids inside. Handle the power cord with care. Do not use wet hands to plug/unplug. Do not remove covers or remodel the machine. Turn off power and consult dealer if abnormal conditions (heat, smoke, smell) occur. Turn off power and consult dealer if power cord generates heat or smell. Turn off power and unplug if foreign objects enter. Unplug during thunderstorms. Never put hands near driving parts. Do not let hair, ties, or necklaces hang near driving parts.
  • Caution: Situations that may cause slight injuries or property damage. Do not place on unstable or slanted surfaces. Avoid moist or dusty places. Pull plug by holding the plug, not the cord. Unplug before moving the machine. Unplug for extended periods of non-use.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity:

  1. Power Off: Always switch off the power and unplug the machine before cleaning.
  2. Cover Usage: When not in use, keep the cover in place to prevent dust and paper dust accumulation on the fold rollers.
  3. Cleaning Fold Rollers: If paper dust or ink accumulates on the fold rollers, it can cause wrinkles or improper folding. Periodically clean them by:
    • Removing Table 1 and 2.
    • Using a cleaning kit to clean the surface of the fold rollers.
  4. Cleaning Paper Feed Rollers and Separator: Accumulation of dust or ink can deteriorate paper feed performance, leading to jams or slips. Periodically clean them by:
    • Using a cleaning kit to clean the surface of the paper feed rubber fold rollers.
    • Moving the paper feed shaft towards you and cleaning it.
  5. Consumable Products:
    • Paper feed rubber roller, rubber brake, and paper feed separator are consumable products.
    • Fold rollers are guaranteed for six months.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues such as:

  • Paper not fed (slipped): Possible causes include paper stuck after printing (too wet), stains on separator or feed roller, worn separator, or insufficient paper volume. Solutions involve drying paper, cleaning components, replacing worn parts, or loading more paper.
  • Machine not operating: Often due to paper jam inside the unit. Solution is to detach tables and remove jammed paper.
  • Wrinkles on paper: Can be caused by paper stuck after printing, stains on separator or feed roller, stains on fold rollers, or improperly set tables. Solutions include drying paper, cleaning components, or resetting tables.
  • Improper fold position: May be due to non-standard paper length or stains on fold rollers. Solutions involve measuring paper length and adjusting with the fine adjustment knob, or cleaning fold rollers.
  • Drawing paper (125kg or lighter) cannot be folded: Can occur in low room temperatures, making paper stiff. Solution is to let paper acclimate to 20-25°C for 3-4 hours before folding.

The Galaxy FM500 is a robust and efficient solution for automating paper folding, designed with user safety and ease of maintenance in mind.
