Overview

This document is an instruction manual for GARCARE Corded Hedge Trimmers, covering models GHT06, GHT12, and GHT08. It provides detailed information on safety, specifications, parts description, application, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The GARCARE Corded Hedge Trimmer is designed for trimming hedges, bushes, and shrubs. It is a mains-operated (corded) power tool intended for outdoor use. The tool features a safety switch and a trigger for operation, requiring both hands to activate. The GHT08 model includes a unique rotary handle feature, allowing the handle to be adjusted to different positions (-90°, -45°, 0°, 90°, 45°) for comfortable use by both right-handed and left-handed individuals. The cutting blades are designed with laterally rounded and staggered cutting teeth to reduce the danger of injury and include additional shock protection to prevent kickback when encountering walls or fences.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual lists the following specifications for the three models:

  • Model GHT06:
    • Rated Rating: 120V~60Hz, 4.2A
    • Cutting length: 18 inches
    • Cutting capability: 5/8 inches
  • Model GHT12:
    • Rated Rating: 120V~60Hz, 4.6A
    • Cutting length: 24 inches
    • Cutting capability: 3/4 inches
  • Model GHT08:
    • Rated Rating: 120V~60Hz, 4.8A
    • Cutting length: 24 inches
    • Cutting capability: 3/4 inches

All models are Class II tools, indicated by the symbol, meaning they have double insulation and do not require a grounded connection. The manual also warns that the machine produces an electromagnetic field during operation, which may interfere with active or passive medical implants. Users with such implants are advised to consult their physician and the implant manufacturer before use. The declared vibration total value is measured according to a standard test method and can be used for comparison and preliminary exposure assessment.

Usage Features

The hedge trimmer is designed for ease of use and safety.

  • Connection: It connects to single-phase AC current, and users must ensure the mains voltage matches the rating plate. An extension cord is required, and a loop should be formed, pushed through the handle opening, and hooked over the cord hook for secure connection.
  • Switching On/Off: To switch on, the power plug must be fully inserted into the socket, and both the safety switch on the front handle and the trigger on the main handle must be pressed simultaneously with both hands. To switch off, releasing either the safety switch or the trigger will stop the tool. The blade brake ensures the blades stop within 0.5 seconds. A small flash in the ventilation slots is normal and does not indicate a fault.
  • Cutting Hedges: The recommended method for cutting hedges is to first trim the sides from bottom to top, then shape the upper part as desired (straight horizontal, roof-like, or rounded).
  • Safety Precautions: Users are advised to keep all body parts away from the cutter blade, avoid removing cut material or holding material to be cut while blades are moving, and ensure the switch is off when clearing jammed material. The cable should be kept away from the cutting area to prevent accidental cuts. The tool should be held by insulated gripping surfaces to prevent electric shock if the blade contacts hidden wiring or its own cord. Both hands must firmly hold the trimmer, one on the rear handle and one on the front handle, with thumbs and fingers firmly embracing the handles.
  • Adjustable Handle (GHT08 only): The GHT08 model allows for handle adjustment by pressing the rotary button (without pressing the trigger) and rotating the handle to positions like -90°, -45°, 0°, 45°, or 90°. The rotary button must return to the lock position for the machine to operate.
  • Environmental Conditions: Power tools should not be exposed to rain or wet conditions. When operating outdoors, an extension cord suitable for outdoor use should be used. If operating in damp conditions is unavoidable, a residual current device (RCD) protected supply is recommended.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the hedge trimmer.

  • Pre-Operation Check: Before any checks or maintenance, the plug must be disconnected from the electric power supply. The machine should be checked regularly before starting work.
  • Blade Maintenance: Damaged cutting blades must be repaired or exchanged by a qualified service person. After each cutting operation, the cutting blade should be cleaned with a soft brush and cloth, lubricated with fluid oil, and sprayed with a thin layer of fluid protective oil.
  • Cleaning: Ventilation slots in the motor housing must always be kept clean. The machine should never be cleaned or sprayed with water. The motor housing should only be cleaned with a moist cloth, avoiding detergents or solvents that could damage plastic parts. After cleaning, the motor housing should be carefully dried.
  • Storage: The machine should be stored with the supplied safety blade cover to protect the blades and prevent accidental injury. When not in use, the power plug should be unplugged.
  • General Maintenance: Users should check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that may affect the tool's operation. Any damaged parts should be repaired before use. Keeping cutting tools sharp and clean ensures better control and reduces binding.
  • Service: Power tools should be serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts to ensure continued safety.
