4.Setthealarmlimits.
NIBPalarms’deactivationwithpauseaudiokey
Unlikethecontinuouslymonitoredparameters,NIBPismeasuredperiodically,and
itsphysiologicalalarmscanbedeactivatedwiththepauseaudiokey.Deactivatinga
physiologicalNIBPalarmwillclearthatactivealarmuntilthenextNIBPmeasurement
istaken.Ifthenewmeasurementisoutsidethealarmlimits,thealarmisactivated
again.
NIBPrecheckafteralarmviolation(controlmeasurement)
IftheNIBPvalueexceedsthealarmlimitsandtheNIBPalarmpriorityselectionis
Escalating,anewmeasurementtakesplaceautomatically.IftheNIBPmeasurement
istakenmanually,therecheckmeasurementistaken4seconds(Adult,Childcuff)or8
seconds(Infantcuff)aftertherstmeasurement.WhentheNIBPmeasurementis
takenautomatically,therecheckmeasurementisdelayedby30secondsbeforethe
secondmeasurementistaken.
NIBPmeasurementdescription
NIBPisacquiredusingoscillometrictechnology.Oscillometryisthemostcommonly
usedmeansofindirectbloodpressuremeasurementinautomateddevices.Itis
basedontheprinciplethatpulsatilebloodowthroughanarterycreatesoscillations
ofthearterialwall.
Oscillometricdevicesuseabloodpressurecufftosensetheseoscillationsthatappear
astinypulsationsincuffpressure.Bymeasuringandanalyzingatvariouscuff
pressures,theamplitude(whichchangesbasedonthepressurewithinthecuff)and
thefrequencyofthesepulsations(whichisdependentonthepatient’sheartrate),
oscillometricdevicescannon-invasivelydeterminebloodpressure.
