Do you have a question about the Gemini CDM-1000 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Gemini CDM-1000 is a professional 4-channel stereo preamplifier mixer designed for a variety of audio applications, from DJing to home studio use. This mixer boasts a comprehensive set of features for precise audio control and mixing, along with robust construction and user-friendly design.

Function Description:

The CDM-1000 serves as a central hub for multiple audio sources, allowing users to mix and control up to four stereo channels simultaneously. It features a versatile input section accommodating turntables, CD players, cassette players, and microphones. The mixer's output section provides both balanced and unbalanced connections for main amplifiers, as well as a dedicated booth output for monitoring. A key feature is its assignable crossfader, which allows for seamless transitions between selected channels, enhancing creative mixing possibilities. The cue section enables pre-listening of channels through headphones without affecting the main output, crucial for preparing mixes. Additionally, a talkover function automatically mutes program audio when a microphone is in use, ensuring clear vocal announcements.

Usage Features:

  • 4 Stereo Channels: Each channel features GAIN, HIGH, MID, and LOW tone controls with an extremely wide range of adjustment for a smoother mix. The "Cut Features" on each channel allow for removal of Low, Mid, and/or High frequencies to create special effects.
  • Input Versatility: Channels 1, 2, and 3 offer PHONO/LINE convertibility, allowing connection of turntables or line-level devices. Channel 4 supports LINE inputs and a dedicated MIC 3 input. A GROUND SCREW is provided for grounding turntables.
  • Microphone Inputs: MIC 1 (front panel) accepts 1/4" or XLR connectors. MIC 2 and MIC 3 (rear panel) accept 1/4" connectors, all supporting balanced and unbalanced microphones.
  • Talkover Section: The MIC/TALKOVER SWITCH (9) has three settings: off, mic on (with MIC INDICATOR (8) glow), and mic on with talkover. When talkover is active, the volume of all sources except the Mic inputs is lowered by 16 dB. Dedicated TREBLE (4) and BASS (5) controls adjust the tone of MIC 1 and MIC 2.
  • Cue Section: Connect headphones to the HEADPHONE (13) jack. CUE ASSIGN (20) buttons allow selection of channels for monitoring, with LED indicators. The CUE LEVEL (10) control adjusts cue volume independently of the main mix. The CUE PGM PAN (12) control allows monitoring of either the assigned cue signal (left) or the PGM output (right). The CUE SPLIT (11) button splits cue to one earphone and program to the other.
  • Crossfader Section: The CROSSFADER (28) is assignable, with ASSIGN (27, 29) switches allowing selection of which channel plays through each side (OFF, 1, 2, 3, or 4). This enables flexible mixing and scratching.
  • Output Controls: The MASTER (34) slide controls the main output level, with BALANCE CONTROL (33) for stereo balance. The BOOTH (35) control adjusts the level of the BOOTH OUTPUT (38), which can be used for monitor speakers or as a second zone/amp output. The MONO (32) button (with LED) makes the master output mono.
  • LED Meters: PEAK HOLD LED METERS (30) indicate MASTER OUTPUT levels. Individual channels have PREFADER INPUT LEVEL PEAK HOLD LED METERS (31) that reflect GAIN and tone control adjustments, independent of channel slide positions.
  • Voltage Selector: A VOLTAGE SELECTOR (36) switch on the rear panel ensures compatibility with different power standards (115V/230V).

Maintenance Features:

  • Removable Crossfader: The CROSSFADER (28) unit is removable and can be easily replaced if needed. Different crossfader units (RF-45, RF-30, PSF-45) are available, offering varying travel distances and curve designs for scratch mixing. Instructions for replacement are provided in the manual.
  • Durability: The mixer is designed for professional use and is backed by a three-year warranty.
  • Cleaning: The unit should be cleaned only with a damp cloth. Avoid solvents or other cleaning detergents, spray cleaners, or lubricants on controls or switches.
  • Packaging: When moving the equipment, it should be placed in its original carton and packaging to reduce the risk of damage during transit.
  • Service: To reduce the risk of electrical shock, the unit should not be opened. There are no user-replaceable parts inside. Servicing should be referred to a qualified service technician.
  • Environmental Considerations: Do not expose the unit to direct sunlight, heat sources, rain, or moisture.
