Overview

The SodaStream Genesis™ Sparkling Water Maker is a home carbonation device designed to transform ordinary tap water into sparkling water with ease. This user-friendly appliance offers a convenient and environmentally conscious alternative to purchasing pre-bottled sparkling water, reducing plastic waste and offering customization over carbonation levels.

Function Description

At its core, the SodaStream Genesis™ functions by injecting carbon dioxide (CO2) gas into water contained within a specially designed carbonating bottle. The process is mechanical and does not require electricity, making it a versatile appliance that can be used in various settings. The device is equipped with a carbonating head and a carbonating tube, which facilitate the infusion of CO2 into the water. A carbonating button, located at the top of the machine, activates the CO2 release. The system is powered by a SodaStream 60L CO2 Cylinder, which is housed within the machine and provides the pressurized gas necessary for carbonation. The Genesis™ is designed to be compatible exclusively with SodaStream Plastic Carbonating Bottles, ensuring safe and effective operation. These bottles come in various sizes, such as 1L Fuse, 0.5L Fuse, and 1L Classic, offering flexibility for different consumption needs.

Usage Features

Setting up and using the SodaStream Genesis™ is a straightforward process. The initial setup involves installing the CO2 Cylinder. This begins by placing the Sparkling Water Maker on a flat, sturdy surface. The back cover of the machine is removed to access the cylinder compartment. The CO2 Cylinder is then inserted into the cylinder holder, screwing it in firmly by hand until it is securely in place. It is crucial not to use tools for this step, as overtightening can damage the Sparkling Water Maker or the CO2 Cylinder, potentially leading to an uncontrolled flow of CO2 gas. Once the cylinder is installed, the back cover is reattached.

To create sparkling water, a SodaStream Plastic Carbonating Bottle is filled with cold tap water up to the fill line. It is imperative to carbonate water only and never add flavorings or other liquids before carbonation. Adding anything other than water can contaminate and clog internal parts, potentially leading to excessive pressure and bottle failure. The filled bottle is then inserted into the carbonating tube, ensuring it is properly connected. The carbonating button is pressed in short, firm bursts to achieve the desired level of carbonation. For light carbonation, 1-2 presses are typically sufficient, while 3-5 presses will yield a stronger fizz. The user can control the fizziness by the number and duration of presses. After carbonation, the bottle is removed, and flavorings can be added if desired. The device is designed for ease of use, allowing for quick and repeated carbonation cycles.

The SodaStream Genesis™ is designed with user safety in mind. It is crucial to operate the machine in an upright position on a flat, stable surface, away from hot surfaces, direct sunlight, or open flames. The carbonating tube should be intact and not broken or missing. The Plastic Carbonating Bottle must be properly connected before carbonation, and the machine should not be moved or the bottle removed during the carbonation process. Carbonating an empty bottle is also prohibited.

Maintenance Features

Proper care and maintenance are essential to ensure the longevity and safe operation of the SodaStream Genesis™ Sparkling Water Maker.

For the Sparkling Water Maker itself, general cleaning involves using a mild liquid dish soap and a soft damp cloth to gently clean the exterior. It is important to avoid abrasive cleaners or sharp tools that could scratch or damage the surface. The machine should never be submerged in water or placed in a dishwasher.

The Plastic Carbonating Bottles require specific cleaning instructions depending on whether they are "dishwasher safe" or not. For bottles not marked as "dishwasher safe," they should never be exposed to heat above 50°C (120°F). This means they should not be washed or rinsed in hot water and certainly not in a dishwasher. Instead, they should be cleaned with cold or lukewarm water and a mild dish soap. For "dishwasher safe" Plastic Carbonating Bottles, the maximum allowed temperature is 70°C (158°F). These bottles can be washed in a dishwasher, but it is still important to avoid exposing them to temperatures above this limit. All bottles, regardless of their dishwasher safety rating, should not be placed near heat sources like kitchen ovens/stoves, left in a car, or stored in a freezer or extreme cold below 1°C (34°F).

Regular inspection of the Plastic Carbonating Bottles is also crucial. Bottles should not be used if they are damaged, deformed, changed in shape, scratched, worn, or discolored. Each bottle has an expiration date, and it is vital to discontinue use after this date, as the plastic may degrade over time and become unsafe for carbonation. Only SodaStream Plastic Carbonating Bottles specifically designed for this Sparkling Water Maker should be used.

Regarding the CO2 Cylinder, it is important to handle it with care. Cylinders should be inspected for dents, punctures, or other damage before use. A damaged cylinder should not be used, and a SodaStream-authorized service representative should be contacted. The CO2 Cylinder should not be tampered with, punctured, incinerated, or have its valve removed. It should be stored in a well-ventilated area, protected from sunlight, and not exposed to temperatures above 50°C (120°F). The cylinder should never be removed while the machine is operating or while it is discharging CO2. In the event of a CO2 leak, the area should be ventilated, and fresh air should be breathed. If feeling unwell, immediate medical attention should be sought.

The SodaStream Genesis™ is a robust and reliable device when used and maintained according to these guidelines, providing a sustainable and enjoyable way to create sparkling water at home.
