APPLICATION:
The GRI Pool Access Alarm is designed as an aid to detect unsupervised access to a pool/spa area by a
small child. Monitoring a door or window with a magnetic reed switch(es), the Pool Access Alarm will
sound an alarm should anyone too small to manage the adult pass through feature tries to enter the
pool/spa area. For maximum protection all movable openings should be protected in such a manner
by the GRI Pool Access Alarm. The self contained surface mounted alarm may easily be mounted to the
wall of any structure or mounted inside a single gang utility box.
DESCRIPTION:
The GRI Pool Access Alarm uses a microprocessor to monitor the Closed Loop magnetic reed switch(es),
shunt/cancel button, and supply voltage, and to provide the timing options. The Pool Access Alarm is set to
alarm instantly if the protected door is opened before pressing the shunt/cancel button. Model DPARM-D
is set to an initial seven second delay. In which case, alarm will wait 7 seconds upon door opening before
alarming. In all cases, depressing the shunt/cancel button will provide a maximum 15 second window of
alarm deactivation and automatically reset upon expiration.
WARNING: THIS IS NOT A LIFE SAVING DEVICE.

Overview

Closed Loop Pool Access Alarm (DPARM)

The GRI Closed Loop Pool Access Alarm (DPARM) is a microprocessor-controlled device designed to enhance safety by detecting unsupervised access to pool or spa areas. It monitors doors or windows using magnetic reed switches and sounds an alarm if an opening is detected, particularly if a small child attempts to enter without using the adult pass-through feature. This device is intended to supplement existing barrier codes and provide an additional layer of security.

Function Description

The DPARM operates by monitoring a closed loop circuit formed by magnetic reed switch(es), a shunt/cancel button, and the supply voltage. When a protected door or window is opened, the alarm is triggered. The device offers two primary modes of operation:

  • Instant On (DPARM model): The alarm sounds immediately upon the opening of a protected door or window if the shunt/cancel button has not been pressed.
  • 7 Second Delay (DPARMD model): This model provides an initial seven-second delay. If a protected door or window is opened, the alarm will wait seven seconds before sounding, allowing time for authorized entry.

In both modes, pressing the shunt/cancel button provides a maximum 15-second window during which the alarm is deactivated. After this period, the system automatically resets. For comprehensive protection, all movable openings leading to the pool/spa area should be equipped with a GRI Pool Access Alarm.

The alarm is designed to exceed the operational requirements of most model barrier codes, offering robust performance. It can be powered by either battery or an external power source, ensuring continuous operation. A low battery alert feature notifies users when the battery needs replacement. The device is available in both surface-mounted and recessed models, allowing for flexible installation. It also includes a SPDT (Single-Pole, Double-Throw) relay output and supports remote sounders and buttons for enhanced functionality and convenience.

Important Technical Specifications

Power and Battery:

  • Battery Type: Standard 9 Volt
  • Battery Life: Approximately 3-6 months
  • External Power: 12V DC, 500 mA output. Applied voltage must not exceed 15 Volts DC.
  • Low Battery Mode: Activates at 6.5V DC.
  • Surge Protection: It is recommended to use surge protection, such as the GRI CS-1 Current Sensor, between the power supply and all GRI Pool Alarms utilizing external power.
  • Minimum Operating Voltage: The unit will function at a minimum of 5VDC, but with a very limited sounder volume. This level is considered total battery failure.

Alarm Output:

  • Sounder Rated: 85 dB at 10 ft. (3.5 M)
  • Switch Type: Closed Loop

Relay Contacts:

  • Nominal Switching Capacity: 2A 30 VDC
  • Max Switching Power: 60 Watts
  • Max Switching Current: 2 Amps

Physical Characteristics:

  • Mounting Height: Refers to local code.
  • The self-contained surface-mounted alarm can be easily mounted to a wall or inside a single-gang utility box.

Usage Features

Installation Flexibility: The DPARM can be installed on a single door or a door with a screen. If a screen door is present, a separate switch should be installed on it and connected in parallel with the main door switch. This configuration ensures the alarm only activates if both doors are open, preventing false alarms when only the screen door is open.

User Interface:

  • Shunt/Cancel Button: Allows for temporary deactivation of the alarm for authorized entry.
  • Sounder Volume Control (JP-1): Offers three volume settings: Full Volume, 3/4 Volume, and 1/2 Volume, providing flexibility to adjust the alarm's loudness according to user preference and environment.
  • Remote Sounder Control: The device supports external sounders for increased audibility.
  • Remote Reset/Delay Switch: Provides options for remote control of the alarm's reset and delay functions.

Connectivity: The device features multiple terminal blocks (TM1 and TM2) for connecting various components:

  • TM1: External Power (+), Ground, Remote Reset/Delay Switch, and Door Contact.
  • TM2: Remote Sounder Control, Remote Power, Relay N/O (Normally Open), Relay Common, Relay N/C (Normally Closed), and Ground.

Maintenance Features

Battery Replacement: The device uses a standard 9-volt battery, which typically lasts 3-6 months. The low battery alert (6.5V DC) signals when replacement is needed.

Warranty: The GRI Pool Access Alarm comes with a one-year limited warranty covering workmanship, material, and factory defects.

Important Disclaimer: It is crucial to understand that the GRI Door Alert/Pool Alarm is not a life-saving device. Its sole purpose is to serve as a monitoring device for doors and windows, helping to prevent unattended access to pool/spa areas. It should be used as part of a comprehensive safety strategy and not as a substitute for supervision or other safety measures.
