Overview

The Ghisalba VFD-E Series is a high-performance AC motor drive designed for variable speed control of 3-phase induction motors. It is manufactured with high-quality components and incorporates the latest microprocessor technology.

Function Description

The VFD-E Series AC motor drive controls the speed of 3-phase induction motors. It offers various operation methods, including digital keypad, external terminals (analog voltage/current, multi-function inputs), and RS-485 serial communication. The drive supports V/f control and vector control methods. It features a comprehensive fault diagnostic system with several alarms and fault messages, and provides protective functions such as over-current, over-voltage, overload, and overheat prevention. Advanced features include auto acceleration/deceleration, S-curve acceleration/deceleration, multi-step speed control (up to 15 steps), PID control, energy saving, speed search, and DC braking. The drive also has a built-in PLC function for programmable logic control, allowing users to create and execute custom programs.

Usage Features

  • Easy Parameter Setting: Parameters are divided into 11 groups for intuitive configuration.
  • Flexible Control Sources: Master frequency command can be set via digital keypad, analog inputs (AVI, ACI), or RS-485 communication. Operation commands can also be sourced from the keypad or external terminals.
  • Auto-Tuning: Motor parameters can be automatically tuned for optimal performance, including R1 resistance and no-load current.
  • S-Curve Acceleration/Deceleration: Provides smooth acceleration and deceleration, reducing vibration and shocks.
  • Energy Saving: Automatic energy-saving function adjusts output voltage to minimize power consumption under varying loads.
  • Speed Search: Allows the drive to restart into a free-running motor without stopping it first, matching the motor's current speed.
  • Multi-Step Speeds: Up to 15 pre-set speeds can be selected via multi-function input terminals.
  • PID Control: Integrated PID function for closed-loop control applications, with adjustable set point, feedback, and gain parameters.
  • External Accessories: Supports various optional accessories such as brake resistors, brake units, AC reactors (input/output), zero phase reactors, EMI filters, remote controllers, extension cards (relay, I/O), and fieldbus modules (DeviceNet, LonWorks, Profibus).

Maintenance Features

  • Daily Inspection: Includes checking motor operation, installation environment, cooling system, vibrations, motor overheating, and input voltage.
  • Periodic Inspection: Requires disconnecting AC input power and waiting for capacitors to discharge before inspection. Checks include ambient environment (temperature, humidity, dust), voltage (main circuit, control circuit), keypad display, mechanical parts (sound, vibration, loose screws), main circuit (screws, insulation, dust), terminals and wiring (color change, deformation, insulation damage), DC capacity, resistors, transformers, reactors, printed circuit board, connectors, and cooling fan.
  • Fault Code Information: Provides detailed fault descriptions and corrective actions for common issues like over-current, over-voltage, low voltage, overheating, overload, external fault, EEPROM errors, phase errors, communication errors, and analog signal errors.
  • Reset Function: Faults can be cleared via keypad, external terminal, or communication command after the cause of the fault has been resolved.
  • Cooling Fan Control: Adjustable fan control modes (always ON, ON/OFF with drive status, ON with heatsink temperature).
