Do you have a question about the Gliderol Glidermatic GTS+ Optima and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Glidermatic GTS+ Optima is a heavy-duty automatic operator designed for tilt and sectional garage doors, offering a blend of convenience, security, and customizable control. This device is engineered to automate the opening and closing of garage doors, enhancing daily accessibility and providing robust operational performance. Its design focuses on user-friendly programming and reliable functionality, making it suitable for both new installations and upgrades to existing garage door systems.

Function Description

At its core, the Glidermatic GTS+ Optima serves as an electromechanical system that drives the garage door along its tracks. It integrates a motor, a control board (PCB), and various input/output terminals to manage door movement, safety features, and user interactions. The operator is capable of handling the weight and movement of heavy tilt and sectional doors, ensuring smooth and consistent operation.

The primary function involves receiving commands from a transmitter (remote control) or an external wall switch to initiate door movement. Upon receiving a command, the motor engages, and the door travels to its open or closed limit. The system is equipped with intelligent limit setting capabilities, allowing it to learn and remember the precise open and closed positions of the door. This ensures that the door stops accurately without over-traveling or straining the mechanism.

A crucial aspect of its functionality is the integrated safety features. The Glidermatic GTS+ Optima is designed to detect obstructions during its travel. If the door encounters an obstacle while closing, it is programmed to automatically reverse, preventing damage to the door, the obstruction, or potential injury. This auto-reverse function is a key safety measure, and its sensitivity can be adjusted to suit different environments and door types.

The operator also supports external safety devices such as photo sensors (photocells). These sensors create an invisible beam across the garage door opening, and if this beam is broken during the door's closing cycle, the door will stop and reverse. This provides an additional layer of protection, particularly useful in households with children or pets.

Furthermore, the Glidermatic GTS+ Optima includes features that enhance security and convenience. It supports multiple transmitters, allowing various users to operate the door. The system also offers an "auto close" function, which can be configured to automatically close the door after a set period, ensuring the garage is never left open inadvertently. For added security, a "vacation mode" can be activated to lock out transmitter signals, preventing unauthorized access when users are away.

The control board (PCB) is the central processing unit, housing various connectors for power, motor, transmitters, external switches, photo sensors, and external lights. It features LED indicators and a buzzer to provide visual and auditory feedback on the operator's status and during programming procedures.

Usage Features

The Glidermatic GTS+ Optima is designed for straightforward use and programming, catering to both installers and end-users.

Transmitter Coding:

Transmitters can be programmed in two ways:

  1. By Controller: A new transmitter can be easily coded by pressing the "LEARN" button on the control board, followed by the desired operation key on the transmitter. The system provides LED and beep feedback to confirm successful programming. It automatically exits setup mode after a short period.
  2. By Transmitter: For added convenience, an existing programmed transmitter can be used to code a new one. By holding down specific keys on an already programmed transmitter, the unit enters "Learn Mode," allowing a new transmitter to be coded by pressing its desired operation key. This method is particularly useful if the control board is not easily accessible.

Transmitter Code Erase:

All programmed transmitter codes can be erased by pressing and holding the "LEARN" button on the control board for an extended period. This is useful for security purposes, such as when a transmitter is lost or when changing ownership of the property.

Transmitter Key Setting:

The operator supports different transmitter configurations, allowing for either single-key or three-key operation. This is configured via a jumper setting on the control board. In a single-key setup, one button on the transmitter controls the full open/stop/close cycle. In a three-key setup, separate buttons can be assigned for "STOP," "OPEN," and "CLOSE" functions, offering more granular control.

Limit Setting:

Setting the door's open and closed limits is a critical step for proper operation. This can be done either via the control board or using a programmed transmitter (in 3-key mode).

  1. By Opener (Control Board): The "LIMIT" button on the control board initiates the limit setting mode. Users then use the "OPEN" and "CLOSE" buttons on the board to position the door at its desired top and bottom limits, confirming each position with the "STOP" button. After setting, the unit performs an automatic calibration cycle to optimize door travel and force.
  2. By Transmitter: Similar to the control board method, the "OPEN" and "CLOSE" keys on a programmed transmitter (in 3-key mode) can be used to set the top and bottom limits, with the "STOP" key confirming each position.

Force Setting:

The operational force of the door is factory preset but can be adjusted. This is important for the auto-reverse safety feature. If the door does not reverse when encountering an obstruction, the force setting can be reduced by turning a potentiometer ("FORCE" pot) on the control board. This allows fine-tuning the sensitivity of the obstruction detection.

Automatic Closing Setting:

The "auto close" feature can be enabled or disabled using a jumper on the control board. When enabled, the door will automatically close after a 60-second delay, providing convenience and peace of mind.

Buzzer Setting:

The integrated buzzer provides audible feedback during programming and operation. Its function can be toggled on or off via a jumper setting on the control board, allowing users to choose whether they prefer audible alerts.

LED Control:

In 3-key transmitter mode, the LED light on the operator can be switched on or off using the "STOP" key on the transmitter. This also controls the output to the external light terminal, offering convenient control over garage lighting.

Vacation Mode:

For enhanced security, a "vacation mode" can be activated by simultaneously pressing the "STOP" and "CLOSE" keys on the transmitter. This locks out all transmitter signals, preventing the door from being opened remotely. Deactivating it involves pressing the same keys again.

External Connections:

The operator provides various terminals for connecting external devices:

  • Photo Sensor: A dedicated connector for photo sensors ensures proper integration of this critical safety feature.
  • External Wall Switch: Connectors are available for both one-button and three-button wall switches, offering alternative control points inside the garage.
  • External Light: An optional interface board allows for connecting an external light (110~220V AC) that can be controlled by the operator, often synchronizing with door movement or the LED control feature.

Maintenance Features

While the Glidermatic GTS+ Optima is designed for durability, some maintenance aspects are covered in the manual, primarily concerning the transmitter.

Key Ring Transmitter Battery Replacement:

The key ring transmitters use 3V CR2016x2 Lithium Cell batteries. The manual provides clear instructions for replacing these batteries:

  1. Remove the screw on the back case of the transmitter.
  2. Replace the old batteries with new ones, ensuring a plastic strip remains intact in the clip.
  3. Secure the back case with the screw.

Warranty and Service:

The manual includes a comprehensive warranty statement and conditions, outlining the coverage periods for various components and what constitutes a valid claim. It emphasizes the importance of regular servicing by an authorized Gliderol Distributor or Technician to ensure the longevity of the product. While the operator itself is designed for minimal user maintenance, adherence to recommended service intervals is crucial for optimal performance and to maintain warranty validity. The warranty also specifies exclusions, such as batteries, fuses, light globes, and water damage to electronic components, highlighting areas where user attention might be required.

Overall, the Glidermatic GTS+ Optima is presented as a robust and intelligent garage door operator, offering a comprehensive set of features for control, safety, and convenience, backed by clear instructions for installation, programming, and basic maintenance.
