needs of His people. The Golden Lampstand was pure gold. It was made
with a center shaft and six branches with an olive-oil-burning lamp in each
of the seven heads. Its seven ames lighted the inside of the Tabernacle, just
as Jesus, the Light of the World, lights our pathway as we follow Him.
The entrance to the Holy Place was covered with a heavy curtain. Another
heavy curtain separated the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies. Only the
High Priest was permitted to enter the Holy of Holies, the place where God
dwelt, and only once a year on the Day of Atonement, to make atonement
for the sins of the people.
Within the Holy of Holies rested the Ark of the Covenant, upon which was
placed the Mercy Seat. The Ark contained the stone tablets of the Law, a jar of
manna and Aaron’s staff that blossomed. The mercy seat covered the ark and
was sprinkled with blood by the high priest when he entered each year. The
sprinkled blood showed the covering of the people’s sin from God’s sight.
The Tabernacle was covered with a tent-like covering made up of four layers
of material; the innermost layer was white linen, the second was of goat hair,
the third was of ram skins dyed red, and the outer layer was made of hides
of sea cows. The tent structure was about 15 feet tall and could be seen from
outside the courtyard fence.
God’s presence with Israel was symbolized by the presence of a pillar of re
at night and a pillar of cloud during the daytime, over the Tabernacle.
Everything in the Tabernacle, including the structure and all of the furnish-
ings, was designed to be easily transported from place to place as the Israel-
ites moved about on their journey to the Promised Land.
Now that you know a little about the Tabernacle, you’re ready to begin
assembling your kit.
