The Griot's Garage THE BOSS™ Foam Cannon is a cleaning tool designed to combine a high-pressure flow of water with air and a detergent to deliver rich, clinging foam for vehicle cleaning.
Function Description:
The primary function of THE BOSS™ Foam Cannon is to generate a thick, clinging foam by mixing water, air, and a cleaning detergent. This foam is then applied to a vehicle's surface, allowing the detergent to dwell and break down dirt and grime more effectively before rinsing. The tool is intended for use with a pressure washer, which provides the necessary water flow and pressure.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Pressure Washer Requirements:
- Minimum flow: 1.8 GPM (Gallons Per Minute)
- Minimum pressure: 1,100 psi (pounds per square inch)
- Minimum Cleaning Units (CU): 1,980 CU (calculated as GPM x psi)
- Maximum operating pressure: 3,600 psi (exceeding this can lead to unsafe conditions)
- Adaptor Types: The cannon is compatible with two common adaptor types, both made of fine stainless steel:
- Stainless Steel Threaded Direct Adapter: Dual-threaded - M22-¾" (Item # 81240B)
- Stainless Steel Quick Disconnect Coupler: ¼" Male (Item # 81240A)
- Both adaptors feature pre-installed red pipe thread sealant for secure attachment.
- Detergent Jar Capacity: The manual refers to a 33.8 oz jar for mixing detergents.
Usage Features:
The foam cannon offers two primary methods for dispensing detergent:
-
Auto-Mix Method:
- This method involves pouring concentrated detergent into the jar or screwing a Griot's Garage 35oz. bottle directly onto the internal cap threads.
- Users select an appropriate metering tip based on their pressure washer type (Gas-Powered or Electric) and insert it into the pick-up ball at the bottom of the poly-tube.
- Metering tips are color-coded for different pressure ranges:
- Pink: For Gas-Powered Pressure Washers (2,200 - 3,600 psi; 4,000 - 7,500 CU)
- Purple: For Electric Pressure Washers (1,100 - 2,200 psi; 1,980 - 4,000 CU)
- Aqua: For Maximum Foam (pressure washer independent)
- The chosen tip controls the dilution ratio of the concentrate with water.
-
Manual-Mix Method:
- This method involves pre-mixing a ready-to-use (RTU) solution of water and detergent before adding it to the jar.
- This is suitable for products that require specific dilution ratios.
- The manual provides a chart with recommended dilution ratios for various Griot's Garage products using a 33.8 oz jar:
- BOSS™ Foaming Surface Prep: 20:1 dilution (32 oz water, 1.6 oz concentrate)
- BOSS™ Foaming Surface Wash: 20:1 dilution (32 oz water, 1.6 oz concentrate)
- BOSS™ Foaming Poly Gloss: 20:1 dilution (32 oz water, 1.6 oz concentrate)
- Iron & Fallout Remover: RTU (Ready-To-Use), 0 oz water, 33.8 oz concentrate
- Super-Concentrated Car Wash: 15:1 dilution (30 oz water, 2 oz concentrate)
- Brilliant Finish™ Car Wash: 10:1 dilution (30 oz water, 3 oz concentrate)
- Best of Show™ Wash & Wax: 10:1 dilution (30 oz water, 3 oz concentrate)
- Convertible Top Cleaner: 10:1 dilution (30 oz water, 3 oz concentrate)
Maintenance Features:
Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and performance of the foam cannon, particularly the stainless steel foaming mesh.
- Post-Use Rinsing: After every use and prior to storage, the cannon must be thoroughly rinsed with clear water. This involves rinsing out the cup, adding clear water, and running the cannon until foam ceases and is no longer visible.
- Importance of Rinsing: Failure to thoroughly flush the cannon will lead to premature failure and clogging of the stainless steel foaming mesh.
- Foaming Mesh Replacement: If the foam output diminishes or ceases during normal operation, the Stainless Steel Foaming Mesh needs replacement. Griot's Garage offers a specific replacement part: THE BOSS™ Foam Cannon REBUILD KIT (Item # BFKIT). Only Griot's Garage replacement parts should be used.
- Always read, understand, and follow all safety information in the manual.
- Wear eye and ear protection when operating the tool and pressure washer.
- Hold the spray attachment firmly with both hands to control reactive forces (recoil/kickback).
- Be aware of potential noise exposure from the pressure washer and wear hearing protection.
- Handle chemical detergents with caution; consult SDS for warnings and first aid.
- NEVER point the foam cannon towards the face or body of yourself or others.
- Keep the foam cannon out of reach of children.
- Do not modify the tool.
- Always disconnect the tool from the pressure washer lance before adding detergent, changing metering tips, or performing repairs.
- Ensure the work area is clean, well-lit, and free of distractions.
- Use caution on wet surfaces.
- Griot's Garage Lifetime Guarantee: Covers repair or replacement of defective tools due to faulty materials or workmanship for the working life of the tool, with certain exclusions.
- Six Month Satisfaction Guarantee: Allows for a full refund or credit within six months of purchase if not 100% satisfied.
- Exclusions: The lifetime guarantee does not cover damage from failure to follow recommended maintenance (e.g., not flushing the unit, leading to clogged foaming mesh), misuse, alteration, abuse, or normal wear and tear. Replacement parts are available for purchase. Griot's Garage is not responsible for incidental or consequential damages.
