This document provides detailed instructions for the operation and maintenance of your Grundig television set. It covers various aspects from initial setup to advanced features, ensuring you can fully utilize your device.
Your Grundig TV is a versatile entertainment hub designed to receive and display digital TV programs via DVB-S, DVB-T, and DVB-C, as well as analogue TV. Many of its advanced features, including SMART inter@ctive TV 4.0+, require an internet connection, which can be established via its integrated WLAN or LAN port.
The TV boasts a twin-triple tuner, enabling a Picture-in-Picture (PIP) function, allowing you to view one TV program in the main picture while simultaneously watching another in an inset picture. This also extends to recording, where you can view one program while recording a different one.
A key feature is its ability to record TV programs. For this, you'll need an external USB storage device, such as a hard drive (not included). It's important to note that recorded programs can only be played back on the same TV set. In the event of a TV repair, previously recorded programs may no longer be accessible.
The TV's USB sockets allow for connection of various data media, including external hard drives, USB memory sticks, or digital cameras. A built-in file browser facilitates the selection and playback of various file formats, such as MP4, MP3, or JPEG data.
The Time Shift function offers convenience, allowing you to pause and resume a live program using the remote control. This function records the program to an external data medium, providing flexibility in your viewing experience.
The SMART inter@ctive TV 4.0+ platform provides access to a variety of internet services through applications. The Application Center allows you to browse and launch these apps, while a dedicated web browser offers full internet access.
For interactive content, the TV supports HbbTV, an advanced successor to teletext. HbbTV delivers high-resolution images and video sequences with modern design content. Full functionality of HbbTV requires an internet connection. When a TV station offering HbbTV is selected, a message will appear, and you can activate it using the corresponding color key.
Initial setup involves connecting cables, inserting the power plug, and switching on the power. The TV will guide you through a setup wizard on the screen.
New TV stations can be added at any time through the "Settings" menu, by selecting "Source" and then "Automatic Channel Search." You'll need to specify the antenna type, and the on-screen instructions will guide you through the rest. To sort TV stations in the channel list, access the list, select the desired station, and use the navigation keys to move it to a new position.
The remote control is your primary interface for the TV. It allows you to switch the TV on/off, select channels directly, adjust volume, and navigate menus. Dedicated buttons provide access to the channel list, Tools menu, MyApps menu, and signal source selection. Special functions include a PIP (Picture-in-Picture) button, media playback controls (record, play, pause, stop), 3D mode, and a "My Media" button to open the Media Player menu. You can also select subtitles and audio channels. The cursor control buttons enable navigation within menus and activate various functions.
You can organize TV and radio stations into personalized favourites lists. To save a station, select it from the channel list, press the "Favourites" button, and choose the desired list. Opening a favourites list will then only display stations stored within it.
This feature allows you to quickly return to a previously viewed station during frequent channel changes. Simply press the "Back" button to save the current station, then select other stations. Pressing "Back" again will switch you back to the most recently saved station.
To record digital TV programs, connect an external data medium (hard drive or USB stick). Direct recording is initiated by pressing the record button. You can also program recordings through the electronic TV guide. For simultaneous recording and viewing of different digital satellite programs, a second satellite cable connected to the SATELLITE SUB socket is required. The Time Shift function allows you to pause and resume live TV. This also requires an external data medium. You can rewind up to an hour of content, though this may be restricted by the broadcasting station.
The media player allows you to view images and play recorded programs, films, and music from connected USB devices or a DLNA media server. You can select media sources (e.g., PVR for TV recordings) and browse files by type (All, Music, Photos). Subtitles are supported for films, provided the subtitle file has an identical name to the film file and is in the same folder.
Access the Application Center via the "@" button on the remote control to launch various internet apps. The "All Apps" option in the Application Center displays all available applications. The web browser can be launched from the menu bar, offering full internet browsing capabilities.
Before cleaning, always unplug the power cord from the mains socket. Clean the appliance with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Avoid using detergents containing alcohol, spirit, ammonia, or scouring agents. For the screen, use a damp, soft cloth. Do not use water with soap or detergent.
The remote control requires two Micro/RO3/AAA batteries. Open the battery compartment, insert new batteries according to the polarity markings, and close the compartment. Only use batteries of the same type (brand, size, properties) and do not mix used and new batteries.
Do not dispose of batteries or the product itself with normal household waste. Used batteries should be returned to retail stores or public collection points for proper recycling. The product, at the end of its service life, should be taken to a recycling center for electrical and electronic equipment. Packaging materials should also be disposed of separately according to local guidelines for environmentally safe recycling.
When not in use for a while, switch the TV to standby mode (consuming ≤ 0.5 W). For extended periods of disuse, turn off the TV with the power switch or unplug the power cord. Note that the switch-on timer and programmed recordings will not function if the device is completely powered off or disconnected from the power supply. Selecting a location where no direct sunlight falls on the screen allows for a lower backlight setting, which conserves energy.
To prevent electrical accidents, do not open the TV set, as this voids the guarantee and poses a safety risk. Only operate the TV with the supplied power cable or AC/DC adapter. Do not use damaged power cords or adapters. If the plug has an earthing contact, use a socket with an earthing contact. Connect the TV to the mains socket only after all external devices and the antenna are connected. Protect the TV from moisture and do not place liquid-filled vessels on it. To prevent fire hazards, keep candles and other open flames away from the product. Do not cover the ventilation slots. Unplug the power and antenna plugs during thunderstorms. Do not expose batteries to extreme heat. To prevent injuries from a falling TV, always place the TV on a stable surface. Use manufacturer-recommended cabinets or stands, or furniture that can safely support the TV. Ensure the TV does not protrude beyond the furniture dimensions. Securely anchor the TV and furniture if placing it on tall furniture. Avoid placing fabric or other materials between the TV and furniture. Instruct children about the dangers of climbing on furniture to reach the TV. To ensure adequate ventilation and prevent shortened service life due to high operating temperature, do not place the TV next to heating units or in direct sunlight. Maintain at least 10 cm clearance around the TV. Be aware that some furniture surfaces may discolour when in contact with rubber feet. To protect furniture, place a glass or plastic sheet under the stand, avoiding textile underlays or doilies.
