4.1 The analysis cycle
An analysis cycle is comprised of a flush of the analysis cell, oxidation, and idle time (if the
cycle time is greater than the combined flush and oxidation time).
Oxidation time varies based on the amount of total organic carbon in the sample. Flush time
is configurable and idle time varies to allow for varying analysis cycle time. See Figure 4-1.
Idle time occurs only after an online TOC analysis has been completed and only if the elapsed
time has not exceeded the value for cycle time.
During idle time, the analyzer can operate in one of three ways: flow without conductivity, flow
with conductivity, or no flow.
• When flow without conductivity is selected, the sample valve opens during idle,
allowing continuous flow through the cell. No conductivity is reported.
• When flow with conductivity is selected, the sample valve opens during idle, allowing
continuous flow through the cell. Conductivity of the water is reported.
• When no-flow is selected, the analyzer sample valve closes, stopping all flow through
the sample cell during idle.
